Default 40k Miles and this much interior wear?!

Ok, saw this in FS section... really curious how the seat and steering wheel got worn out this much in a 2007!

https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...r-service.html

Could it be from super sweaty hands? I know it's the alcantara material, but still, only 40k miles! (must be chronically sweaty hands, due to shifter too)

The seat..? Can only imagine something punctured it, then got worse, and the wear is something else...

Nothing negative at all against the seller, or driver, but just curious how this kind of wear can occur???!!

How?

Use.
Florida and Texas sun & heat.
Larger/heavier driver.
Death grip on the wheel.

Nice car. Rare. Looks fixable. Seller seems willing and open to making the car better/improved.

It's hard to imagine the amount of "abuse" required to inflict the level of damage seen on the outside of the leather seat back bolster.

Agreed....in the end, some guys are just harder on their cars. Physiology also plays a role.

My interior has held up well over time, the previous owner of the past 7 years was a wiry septuagenarian and there's little to no bolster wear on my seat.

My assessment after 25 months of ownership is that the 996 Turbo interior is screwed together just fine. The debate over 996T vs. 997T interior quality let alone quantity is a moot point to me as the driving experience is what it's all about. I ain't had anyone ride in my car complain about a dated interior. My buddy has a 997.1 C4S with the power package and after a ride (and time behind the wheel) he left my car impressed and actually not at all speechless. I don't even think he noticed the lack of extra buttons on the dash given the amount of torque he experienced.

So being "just cars" means that not taking care of them/abusing them is therefore the way to treat them?

Maybe the owner never changed the oil...it is of course just a car.

If he's getting rid of it due to knee pain I can see him sitting on the bottom bolster a lot and pushing himself up and out if the car using the side where the damage is.

Imagine the 6'3", 380 lb owner huffing in and out of that thing, sweating all over the steering wheel after devouring a double bacon stacked whopper, bucket of onion rings and a diet coke. Poor car.

I think that would also cause wear on the inside of the right seat back bolster, which I don't see.

Maybe a CCW on his left side (especially if OC) at the 8-9 position could cause the wear, but I'm thinking only if he got in the car starting from a butt-to-car position and plopping down from there.

The first sentence does say "knee pain" and to get in and out of cars like these the "right way" knee pain would totally cause some wear/tear getting in an out.

No.
Relative high mileage for RS with lack of over-revs makes me think it was driven on the street regularly by someone who just likes really cool stuff but didn't use it as intended(i.e., track and upper rpm's regularly).
I'll take a worn seat and wheel with service records vs. one that has half the miles and a worn headliner.

It's not a matter of what you (or others) will take, it's a matter of what "these are just cars" means with regard to your use of that phrase as it may apply to the wear on that GT3RS (or any car for that matter)

You may not apply "these are just cars" to the care of any cars that you own, so my post above is a general reply to the "just a car" mindset that some people have.
