Default Weird finding today when having wheels balanced...

Quick history, 02 C4 Cab picked up on jan 1st. Service Hx back to 02, 2 owner car. 1st owner put 99% of miles on the car, 2nd owner only had it for 6 months.

Driving the car back from Northern California to Tucson, over 1,000 miles, the car did great. Only issue I noticed was a very slight shimmy in the wheel at around 70 to 75 mph. After reading around here I took the car for the probable fix, a wheel balance. Turns out my left front wheel is 18 x 8 inches and my Right is 18 x 8.5in? One of the fronts was a bit out of balance and the shimmy issue is fixed.

However, now I am left to figure out this mystery. In the records I have there is an incident mentioned where the original owner had a flat, got towed and had a control arm replaced. My best guess is she hit something big with the wheel and the dealer didn't have the correct size and put what they had on the car? The car came with option 413, 18 inch turbo look wheels, but I can't seem to find if the fronts in that package were 8 or 8.5 inches? I plan to pick up a wheel and correct the issue. Thanks

Yeah, that's pretty strange. Have you had a look at the back side of the wheels (behind the spokes), there should be a part number back there if the wheels are factory. You should then be able to cross reference the part numbers to figure out which is the correct one.

Have not had a chance yet, but that is a great idea! I will check it out tomorrow! Just realized I posted this in the Turbo forum. Sorry all. Please move to the 996 forum...

Make sure you check all the wheel part numbers so you confirm all are hollow or solid.

the solid wheels have grooves on the back which you can see feel without removing the wheels, but of course the part numbers tell all.
