2003 Turbo Engine Removal, Need Advice
Hello All,
I am just getting started with a project on my 03 to replace the clutch (going with the Sachs 2.5 setup) and I've decided to drop the engine to pin the coolant lines and replace any other tid bits it might need. Ive scoured the forums and am seeing different ways of doing it, and I've printed out the Mitchell manual as well. I dove into it following Mitchell and am to the point of removing the power steering tank and A/C compressor but I am seeing some pictures online of the engine out with everything still attached, some with bumpers on and some with bumpers off.
Can anyone chime in who has experience with this as to the best and easiest way to get the engine out of the car with the least amount of disassembly of accessories? Any help appreciated!

am doing an engine drop on a 6tt as we speak...power steering pump stays with engine, A/C compressor stays with the car
bumper off, IC's off...get all the working space you can
Enjoy the coolant showers

Came across a Turbo (Cab) with its engine out to address rodent damage.
Took some pics. These might be of some value to you... Oh, no pic of the other side.

maybe a few things to point out not to forget,
ground cable at frame rail, turbo inlet pipe and tie it up, starter out, EVAP/fuel lines
I've got many pictures and can snap more when I have this particular car's out

I did this same stuff last year.
If you've scoured the forums, You've probably come across a list of things to replace while you're at it?
That coolant tank needs to be replaced if original, fuel filter, belt.
All the rubber is 15 years old too, so I replaced every coolant hose and all the vacuum rubber and plastic, check valves.
6 Intake manifold hoses and clamps, zip tie lines, motor and trans mounts, plugs, coils.
Just stuff off the top of my head but you get the idea.
So much is real easy while it's out and lots is a real pain when it's in.
Keep that in the back of you mind when deciding what else to spen money on as the list can easily get long.

if you dont want to recharge the a/c then drop the bumper and leave the lines attached. unbolt the a/c compressor and lay it over the back of the car. if you disconnect the p/s lines make sure to plug them and rinse the motor completely were you spill petosin it will eat any rubber it comes into contact with. you only have to remove the 2 main lines along the pass side of the car going to the pump and reservoir

Thanks for all the input guys it has helped a bunch especially the pictures. I wish I would have asked before I started as I spent a few hours taking other stuff apart that apparently wasn't necessary. I spent a few hours today taking the bumper off, evacuating the A/C and taking those lines off, disconnecting the wiring harnesses etc. Planning on addressing anything the car may need when everything is out and on the floor.

Since I'm not in a hurry, i've been piecing it together. I have the clutch disc, throwout bearing, all the bolts and a new flywheel. Was waiting until I came across a deal on the pressure plate as it is the most expensive part of the set.

Note that the suspension doesnt actually need to come out. Its pretty tight but you can just unbolt the axles from the transmission and it'll come down. Otherwise, most of that applies I think
