What would you guys pay for this?
Asking premium because it is Guards Red?

For the $ can easily get a 997 TT, what do you guys think?

Guards Red might have something to do with it, although KCATTORNEY and I are extremely biased.

Think it has more to do with the low mileage, but that is quite a premium. Depends on what you want, but I would think if you were willing to accept higher mileage you should be able to be in the mid $40K to low $50K area. Or as you mention, move on to a 997TT.

Low mileage premium on that one. Depends on if you are going to drive it or show it.

If a driver, I am not sure I would pay the premium.

We enjoy having garage queens, wont put too many miles, less than 1000 per year. I know we don't have a crystal ball but do you think this car will appreciate in the future?

no way in he11 i would spend 75k on a used 996tt. look for a 997tt, better car all around IMO

I currently own a 2007 997TT with 11k miles, this will be an addition to our stable. I agree, the 997TT is a much better car, my first turbo was a 2001 996TT.

My father prefers the interior of the 996TT, more snug, in a way I still like it as well.

I threw a $65k offer to seller, lets see how he responds.

Sounds like a fair deal for both if they want to sell it.

My guess is you'd do fine at the asking price so long as you keep it 3-5+ years, don't drive it much, and economy isn't doodoo when/if you want to sell.

Why not get a really nice version with the Aero kit in a great color if that's what you want and don't care about a few thousand one way or another

Dealer used to be a race car sponsor in the 935 era. Good guy, but strong ask.

To be honest, it would be hard to swallow the price after paying a bit more for my 997TT with 6k miles when I purchased it about 2 years ago.

Price is not fact only an opinion. Obviously the seller has a pretty high opinion of this car.

Nada's values are pretty low and Nada doesn't offer the X50 option selection but Nada offers at clean retail the car's price is: $43,875.

KBB does offer the X50 option selection and with this selected KBB's values are max $40,499. (There is a black Turbo (S?) with 44K miles listed for sale for $52.5K.)

A google search using the red car's VIN finds the car listed on a few sites as a "classic". Probably that plays a role in the car's asking price.

The knock against a low miles car is 1) As soon as you drive the car the premium you paid for the low miles evaporates. You then experience heavy depreciation. One benefit of buying a used car is that the previous/first owner bore the brunt of the depreciation. 2) The car is based on miles still "new". Any new car problems -- if they occur -- then you will have to pay for out of pocket. Based on my experience and that of others you can almost count on a bad clutch accumulator and slave cylinder. The power steering tank (a valve) will probably make a high pitched whistle and the valve is part of the tank, is not (AFAIK) sold separately. So the tank gets replaced.

These problems are not super expensive to address. The accumulator and slave cylinder happened with my 2003 (pristine in 2009 with just 10K miles on it) but were covered by the CPO warranty. I had to pay for the power steering tank replacement. That ran around $1000.

But a leaking 6-speed transmission would have run maybe $6K to take care of. As it was the leaking transmission was replaced under CPO warranty.

Up to you. If I was considering "investing" $75K I would not invest it in a 996 Turbo. Even if you park the car and wrap it up in baby diaper cloth it just becomes an old(er) used Turbo, albeit with low miles.

So when the time comes you would then have to find a buyer who valued low miles as much or more -- if you hope to gain anything from your investment -- than you.

That the car isn't flying off the lot is a sign the market for a dearly priced low miles 996 Turbo is not large.

For some laughs... Sellers response to my $65k offer.
Hi Steve,

It wouldn't be very smart of me to sell you the Turbo for $7500 under what I paid for it!

In my opinion, the 997 Turbo can't compare to the 996 which has so much "soul".

I doubt you would ever find a car so loaded and in such perfect condition as this!

Thanks,

Dick
