Simple Hack exhaust for better sound?

That's the gundo bro. Can't do on a turbo but there's a small faction out there who drill the existing exhaust and get a nice sound for cheap - similar to the gundo tone.
Without naming another forum, maybe google this: Modified OEM Muffler 996TT
If you can't do it yourself, maybe Darin Fister could be persuaded to add a new line to his Fister Sport Mufflers...

I would be careful to ensure no large metal shavings got inside if upstream of the muffler. That rattle would get annoying. Just pointing out the obvious, beforehand. If downstream near the tail pipe, it's a non-issue.

I did the OEM 996tt exhaust mod awhile back, it was pretty straight forward to do if your handy with tools. The OEM exhaust tread is pretty detailed and I went with the 1" holes initially and upped to 1.75" in the end. There is a "very" slight drone around 2300-2500 rpm with this mod, but nothing that I consider obnoxious. My neighbor who is a retired a/c engineer loved it, especially on cold starts. I had it for about a year and was asked about it at a few PCA get togethers.
Remember if you do this hack, there is no going back to OEM sound. Doing so will involve wielding small round metal covers over the holes you had drilled out.
While I really liked the sound. I've since went with a aftermarket exhaust as my quest for more hp/sound (X pipe with 100 cell cats) became more important.

I know Purist would probably cringe, and in hindsight I probably should not have done it as this OEM exhaust is worth almost nothing now with this mod.

We've all done it and it's a great first step. Once you get a proper exhaust (used/new) and free up the back pressure you will be amazed. It really does free up quite a bit of power.

1) Keep every major OEM part you remove from the car
2) Buy a used part for experimenting and making modifications to
I added a front spoiler and whale tail to my SC back in 1984. It required drilling holes in my OEM lid. In hindsight, I should have picked up a used engine lid and had it drilled and painted instead. Every now and then I think about going back to the OEM look; but it wouldn't be my original engine lid.
I'd probably pick up an inexpensive TT exhaust for drilling and keep my original version intact. IMO
