Default Clutch Issue I Think?

My car is a 2001 996 turbo 39k miles. I have a issue where the clutch clinks gears on cold starts its hard to put into gear. also on the deceleration in first the car won't come out of gear with the clutch pedal down. It happens sometimes in 2nd but very rarely. When the car is hot like a 1/2hour of driving most of these issues are must less noticeable. She also will grind 2nd gear if the pedal isn't pushed down all the way.

Is this a issue with the clutch or master slave...gearbox, cable wear?

It sounds like the clutch is not fully disengaging. It could be the start of a failing clutch slave or air in the system.

Have you checked the cable alignment/physical connections?
Pentosin levels at both ends?
Bleed clutch
Fresh gear oil

You have some possible issues listed, start with the free to cheap, then evaluate again.

First bleed the air out of the slave. Does not use brake fluid. Takes pentosin power steering fluid be careful to keep it away from any rubber. It will eat water hoses. If the clutch resevoir is low check the power steering reservoir too

"It sounds like the clutch is not fully disengaging" is good advice.

If the hydraulics, throw-out bearing, and clutch fork are working as designed, you may have a problem with the pressure plate. At least that was my experience.

Either a pressure plate issue or trans issue. When you push the clutch pedal in and try to go into gear does the car inch forward without going into gear?

after you swap the clutch.. dont forget to change to change gear oil also. that is possibly exacerbating your "hard to engage" while "cold" issue. but i also think your clutch is shot.

check _carefully_ for cracks on the "U" shaped thing in the bell housing - bad design, often breaks

dist. lub is high heat and will work well in the bell housing

I like Swepco for the trans. oil.

I wonder if he fixed it. 39K seems like a short clutch life.

Might have been the slave, check valve went out pushing pentosin used for power assist to the master cylinder! When the slave goes the pedal engages and disengages at different levels, possibly causing the lack of total clutch release!
