Default Rear view mirror is a lava lamp

Thought I was tripping, but alas my rear view has decided it would rather be a lava lamp. Anyone here have recent success with getting the auto dim mirror refurbished?

My 2003 Turbo's rear view mirror manifested something similar. I replaced the mirror with a new one. When I posted on this subject I'm sure someone offered up a company that repaired these. I have saved the old mirror and have it on my list of things to do to send it in and have it repaired to have as a back up just haven't gotten around to it...

I do not recall the name of the company that repairs these but I found two with a search. I know nothing about either company.

Radar-Mirror.com Mirror Repair are in Texas, and they do a fast turnaround service for around $100

Their address is 4319 Glenhurst, Frisco, TX 75033. Phone is 972-571-7427. E-mail is:info@radar-mirror.com

Another company to rebuild failed mirrors is: Sybesma's Electronics (www.sybesmas.com) in Michigan. Turnaround was less than a week and cost was under $100.

Added: Here's a link to the thread I started regarding the rear view mirror problem in my Turbo. The name of the mirror repair company is in the thread.

Is there any correlation (known or guessed) between using the mirror's auto-dim function and the failure rate?

Than Mac. The fluid dropped and ate right through the soft touch and dissolved the area of plastic around my shifter where the drop hit.

I normally park mine in the garage during the heat of the day. Coincidentally this happened after I went to a friends house and the car baked in the sun for a few hours.

Dang.

What the heck kind of fluid does that thing contain? Xenomorph acid blood?

Anyhow, mine didn't leak and based on your post thank goodness.

Nah. I leave my mirror in auto-dim mode all the time. The outside mirrors too. They're fine. Just some kind of manufacturing defect I think does the mirror in.

The old mirrors that use liquid electrolite are corrosive. New mirrors use a non chemical to produce the dim effect when a current is passed through?

Yup, its an LCD (liquid crystal) membrane, rather than a chromatic gel.

I had mine redone by a company listed, they stated that the leaking would no longer be an issue Was auto dimming and after repair worked great for the three years up until sold.
