I strongly recommend that "all" my customers replace number 20. Venturi lift pumps or as Carlo wrote (pick ups). The nylon hoses are cracking and we lose the fuel that should be pumped to the swirl pot. I spend hours in labor finding a fuel volume issue.

The venture lift pumps Left ad Right just clip into the back of the fuel pump swirl pot. Mark posted a picture showing his handy dandy mirror which shows how to unclip the venture lift pump assys. They just rest at the bottom of each side of the lower fuel tank sponson.

Sonnen has 1 or 2 each #20 assy in stock. Call Neil, Gina, Ryan or Greg..

reach inside and behind and above the swirl pot are the jet pump connectors. disconnect them and then pull the jet pumps out

Following up on this for those who encounter this thread in the future. My car was running out of gas when the gauge was indicating just below a quarter tank but there was still 3 or 4 gallons left in there.

Thanks to everyone here for the tips on opening up the tank and dealing with the fuel sender unit and fuel pump. I was able to swap out the Venturi pick up tubes on each side without removing the pump. It was a tight fit and a little fiddly but easily doable. That has solve the problem.

Did you see any visual damage to the pick up tubes?

I looked closely but did not really see anything. Something as small as a pin hole could have caused my issue and since the new tubes solved the problem I went no further. The old tubes might need to be under pressure to see the leak.

Default Split 3/8 rubber fuel outlet hoses

Thanks for the photos; made FP job understandable.
Car sputtered and died. No start; no fuel pressure at filter Schrader.
Pump runs on ignition on for the power on period, but won't build pressure.
So, pulled the pump and found the 2 short outlet hoses split. One is the horseshoe U bend.
I read elsewhere on this site, that the hoses were replaced with ordinary fuel line and it was a fix.
I don't think the U-bend hose is available, so maybe try to use straight line and put it back together.
Car is an 05' TTS with 34k mi.
No other issues. New pump is $550.
Part# 996 620 10702.
Suggestions?
tnx, greg.

Many people use a "GATES 27093 SUBMERSIBLE FUEL LINE HOSE, ESPECIALLY FOR INTANK FUEL PUMP UPGRADES" for "U" hose replacement.... Cheap fix.....

The dealer replaced the pump the first time under warranty. After the second occurrence, the dealer used the Gates (referenced above) hose to custom fix the issue. Been good since then.

You can get them from TiAutomotive, the manufacturer of Walbro pumps. Various lengths in I.D of 8 or 10mm

Default Fuel Pump fix

Thanks you guys;
Replaced the 2 short injection hoses with the Gates part # listed above. Submersible rated, available in one ft lengths from Napa. Also made sure to use 4 ALL Stainless clamps.
Removing the crimp clamps was a challenge.
Pumped all the fuel out first.
Put 10 gal ethanol free premium and it started and ran as before.
Made sure to work outside.
Used all the good suggestions from this site!
