Default Anyone Knows the History on this Car in CA?

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/5558643417.html

My friend ask me to look at this car. I've Carfax it and shows it's been salvaged twice. Current owner states he knows nothing in regards to the first accident. Seems odd if he spoke with owner before him and he's a Porsche mechanic and didn't see any evidence of previous accident. Giving him the benefit of doubt that he didn't know and first accident repairs was done right, does anyone here knows the history on this car? Any help would be appreciated.

It belongs to a friend of mine in Costa Mesa. The map is correct. The phone number is correct. Not sure why the listing says San Mateo

Be sure to buy a 2002 or newer Turbo. Different car and much better than 2001

It looks to the very rare and desirable 2003 Turbo S at a reasonable price. With the salvage title it would make a great DD.

Looks to me as if the 'S' was just appended to the Turbo logo.

sho nuff was.

funny thing is all that boilerplate at the bottom of the listing is largely true. i tried to buy my 02 when it was totaled and they wouldn't let me but i didn't push because their offer i made out like a bandit...

but if the guys a pcar tech. what with the victor wheels S badging and god knows what other shortcut or misleading stuff might be associated with this car? a front fender is no big deal and would;'t need a cellette appraisal per se..

but is it salvaged ONCE or TWICE or is it the mystery 996 turbo. either way its overpriced. ESP as salvage titled in CA. i'd keep movin myself. colors are nice tho..

The owner is quite knowledgeable about 356s and very early 911s. IIRC, he bought the car with Sport Technos and didn't like the look, so changed to the Victors. I know there was some cosmetic damage and minor suspension stuff to fix, and he had it all professionally done. He's not the kind of guy to do 'shortcuts.' He's had the car about a year and a half, I believe. He's also selling another 996TT - both are on eBay.

We were talking about this one in the Craigslist thread yesterday - yeah the 2003 Turbo S model - very, very, very rare.
I don't see the part where it says it was salvaged twice. Where is that? Long listing so maybe I overlooked it.

If it was local, then I was thinking to check it out for a friend, but LA is too far for a car with questionable history or missing history. Just wanted to know all the history before a viewing. On the first accident, took about 2 1/2 yrs before car hit the road again, so leads me to believe it was a big accident, but I could be wrong.

hey, no offense meant. particularly if its an actual friend of yours and your doing him a favor by making the car known to others. thats cool. victor's aren't a capital offense. borderline ( just kiddin' lol ).. they are heavy. thats so weird, i love sport tec's i'd never swap em for victors, but victors ( like most other cheaper mfg'r's ) make copies ( "lookalikes" more accurately? ) of more expensive wheels and they only cost about 350 a piece. i had a set once before i had a clue as to what i was doing. i sure didn't have the issues i had with my f'stars and the lug nut saga ( whew ).. i'm sure he'll sell it fast. it is a good color combo too. if he has the sports tech's though id put them on if i were selling. to me they're just one step under gt3 wheels in the looks dept.

but I'm sure its a fine car and that fender thing is nothin..its just salvage titles are such a blemish whether damage was significant or not. it just sounds ugly.

wish him glws!

i think it was pretty cool and thoughtful of the guy to list the actual definition and criteria for what exactly a "salvage title" can or could mean in CA. i'd never seen it codified so that was helpful and obviously one would have to make that known immediately anyway to a potential buyer so i think it was a smart move to list it w that info re "salvage" titles and CA.

Just to round this thread out.

*this* is why the car has a salvage title...
