Default Did I hit the jackpot with my recent purchase of 05 996tt Cab?? Or Dud?

Hi Fellow members,

So last month I purchased 05 996tt Cab Slate Gray with 88km. Having minor issues with check engine light due to aftermarket exhaust-had an extender put in and it is now running fine.
This last weekend I went to California Speedway to see some Porsches both Sat & Sunday. I was checking out Bilstein booth for some shocks. One older gentlemen was also looking for some B8 shocks. So he asked me what year is your car? So I told him I had an 2005 996tt Cab. He said " are you sure it is not an 03 or 04?" I said I am positive it is an 05, because I have my docs when I purchased the car. He looked surprised and said you are one lucky guy. I asked him why? He said that 05 996tt Cab there are only maybe 100 left and the rest are salvaged or total lost. He said to look up and research productions on these 996tt you will be surprised.
He give me his number and said if I ever wanted to sell my car. He would buy it for $45k. BTW...I paid $37k plus tax and license. So Iam already in around $40k plus. Iam not planning to sell the car to make money. I bought it so I could enjoy it. Making $5k is nice, but its not about the money. Its more of finding a gem. Iam hoping to keep it long enough for my son who is only 10 yrs old and pass it on to him when Iam 6ft under.
I was able to search online and found 2 different information regarding to 996tt production. Can someone verify which one is accurate?

6 speedonline posted this numbers, but kinda looks odd that they made more CAB then Coupe in 2004 & 2005?

I don't know which number is correct or whether either one is accurate, but I will say that having just gone through the purchase process specifically looking for either a 2004 or 2005 coupe (and ending up buying a 2004 coupe), it was much more difficult to find for sale listings for coupes. Most of the cars for sale on Autotrader, cars.com, online forums, etc. for those model years are cabriolets. Based on my experience, I have little doubt they produced more cabriolets than coupes for both of those model years.

You got me curious so I just did a quick check on eBay and Autotrader. I saw only 2 or 3 200h MY turbos vs literally dozens and dozens of 02's, 03's and 04's. It doesn't seem like the 05's are getting any kind of premium though and I don't expect they would. If you can but a 996TT in the 40's would I pay extra for an "05? Not unless the car itself was really special and not because it was a low run '05.

With all that being said, it sounds like you got a great deal on your car and you. Sounds like you love the car and that is what is important. Enjoy it, drive it, mod it and pass it down.

It certainly is fun to have a rare car, and frankly, 996TTs are not exactly "dime a dozen" regardless of year, fitment, etc...

But I will say that rarity based on MY tends to not be a big deal in the minds of buyers/collectors, unless there is something different about the MY in question; like the "S", for example.

I have to chuckle when people say things like "only 1 of 50 in XX painted in YY with option ZZ". While quite possibly true, if YY is a weird color, and ZZ is "with the small engine", then I would say that there is a reason the configuration is so rare...

Of course, based on the picture, your car is pretty desirable, so as others have said, you've got a fine ride there, regardless.

IIRC, all 2005 TT's were "S" models no matter coupe or cab.

Hmmm interesting number on cabs since the 996TT cab wasn't introduced until MY2004.

According to Porsche dealer here in Pasadena Rusnak. I called them with my Vin # to verify. They told me my 05 Cab is not a "S" just Turbo only.
I was hearing the same thing about on other forums that all 05 are 'S".
My car door sill has a "S" but maybe previous owner just cover it up to make it look more beefy? lol
Also, I believed arent "S" also have the logo on the odometer?
Mine just say turbo.
My calibers are red and not yellow. Arent "S" comes in Yellow?
So, Iam thinking I have a regular turbo non-"S"

Just for conversation and entertainment only, I am not selling my mistress to anyone. I have been having so much fun with her. It would take alot for me to give her up on weekends.

I will start Mods on her once a month (1 major item) when wifey gives me my monthly allowance. LOL
Thinking ECU program, headers, exhaust, intake, bilstein shocks,HR springs, bigger intercool, upgrade the stereo system, amps and subs.
Iam sure there are more things I can read and add from this forum.
That should give my wifey a headache for couple of month at least. hahah!

Cheers.

Indeed...and I understand it, in MY 2005, they were all hand assembled in the Exclusive dept. as of 1/2005 or 12/2004.

Cheers,
