Looking for a high mileage DD. Pitfalls

I DD mine, around 90k miles on it. I didn't buy it with the intention to DD it, but that's how it worked out
Check for transmission popping out of gear if you go with a 6 speed. Nothing unsual to check for compared to a lower mileage example, look for the same things and treat it like any other car you would check out. I ended up buying a higher mileage car even though I budgeted for about 10k more than I actually spent because it checked out so well.

On the same subject, I'm curious about what you guys think a fair price is for a lightly modded 6 speed with under 150k miles. Assuming that about half of its current mileage was racked up in the past 6 years by the same owner with lots of detailed service records during that time but no records prior to that.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I've been shopping for cars that fall into the category that was being described, and would say that the above is about what the seller probably will have to accept for the car.
It is not unreasonable for the seller to hope for $30k, but he would be unlikely to get $35k; too many cars available at lower mileage for that latter figure.
Of course, if the car is really greatly sorted now, then that might warrant a higher price from the right buyer, but as others have noted, even a good PPI does not mean that there are not major repair items just around the corner, and higher mileage probably makes that more likely. It is the rare high-mileage car (in my experience) that has had a lot of major stuff done to it; usually, they got to that mileage because they are run reasonably trouble free...

That's about right for a car with 150K on the clock. IMO the sweetspot for these cars right now are in the 70k to 90k range. They are available in the low $30k range and many have gone though a midlife refresh of major components; clutch, suspension, waterpump, alternators, etc. That's where I would focus for a reasonable daily driver.

As a reference point for higher mileage cars, I received a serious cash offer from a coworker for my over 90k mile car at $36k. He said whenever I am ready to let it go, give him first dibs and he will pay that price no questions asked.

Not only that, but the coworker can afford to bid high as there is enormously less moral hazard in buying from a coworker that you know and trust compared to some shady mothereffer who people rightly assume only wants to stick a massive pole up their backside. So the same car on the lot of a third rate dealer who mainly sells beat up buicks and nissans would be worth a lot less.

Believe me, I was trying for a good while...
Another thing I will say is that ultimately, I decided I would rather get a higher mileage example for cheap, knowing that if there were major issues, my net out of pocket could not be much worse than the cost of a lower mileage example. The alternative of getting a "better" car possibly only to find some big ticket problem a few months into ownership (resulting in a net "crazy" out of pocket price) was unappealing to me.
Mind you, I realize that many would not agree with my reasoning...

Regardless, I wholeheartedly agree about the fun quotient point.
Thanks.

to both you moto and greencalex. i'm on my 2nd 996 tt and i paid 42. i OVERpaid knowingly because it had about 75% of what i ultimately was going to do in mods already done. i also knew the provenance of the car its maint history and the folks that maintained it as WELL as the seller personally. so in that regard i'm the rare one for whom the mods were a distinct plus. but this was a much safer buy. i didn't even PPI it. i drove it for 10 minutes and "paypalled" my bud.
i have since ( 5 yrs maybe? ) probably spent in the range of 35/40k$ in maint and added mods and excessively compulsive maint and more mods and haven't saved ONE receipt because i don't give a sh*t about receipts or "resale". but sadly, my car would fetch 25K ( ish ) from a dealer and MAYBE 30K ( ish ) from a PP that knew and understood how matched and well sorted my car is ( for what i do w it )..
but then having said all that. ANYone drives this thing would also pay me 27/30k on the spot also after a 10 minute drive. 135k miles +/- i can't remember lol. it's just that good. couple of scratches be damned
cheers guys and welcome if you've both picked one up. these are golden. who cares what that are "worth". a 15 min drive and i am ALIVE lol
so that's why i'm always lowballing when I talk about the actual monetary value of the car. its sad but true. if i HAD? to sell tomorrow? or wanted to fast? it's 25k fast and 30 slower.
it's just what it's "worth". by contrast my last 993 would be worth 50/60k now LOL.
waddya gonna do....
