sachs Clutch
Hi guys,
We are putting together a 996TT track car here in New Zealand, and want to swap the standard clutch for the Sachs 5.5" and flywheel, the same as used on the cup cars. Have any of you had any experience with these on a turbo? Or do you swap to a dedicated flywheel and clutch combo for a 996TT?
We want to use the sachs 5.5" unit as we run cup cars as well, so have the supply of them already.
Thanks

I would call Sachs and inquire about the torque rating. Can also check out Tilton and ERP multi-disc clutches made for the Turbo'd 996/997

A few questions..
What is the output of the new turbo engine.. A us tried this clutch 12 years ago... It does not handle the low RPM torque. You have to step up to the 7.25 Tilton...
Which crankshaft are you using? Turbo or early cup? The cup has a damper on the nose of the crank, putting this lightweight clutch on the turbo crank yields pulley issues...
Here is a great track clutch kit..

You could us the lightened 4.0 flywheel IF you are using the cup crank or GT3 crank. If you are using the 993/996TT crank, I'd recommend the heavier RS flywheel as pictured. At the end of the day, you are only adding 2 between flywheels.. The Turbo needs the mass.

I understand the heavier flywheel will help keep the revs up during shifts, but I wasn't sure if it would effect it a huge amount. I was more inquiring about weather or not the flywheel would work fine on the car with the standard crank angle sensor or if the turbo had a different timing setup (on the flywheel). I should have written the original post a bit differently.
And yes i know this 5.5" clutch is a pain to drive on the street, we have sold the car but are helping the guy finishing it off as the flywheel we were originally supplied had a small bend in it.
