Darn, you guys are motivating me to create my own.
The PO had a CA "TWINTRB" which I gave up as I thought it was too . . . in your face. I do like the new, old black and yellow plates on my seal grey KH

NICE!!! it didn't even occur to me to look a few months back when i re-upped mine since it hadn't hit my radar yet that they had brought back the 1960's black yellow plate colors, but i surely would've tried! GREAT SCORE. but mine are strategic" and i cant explain. has to do with contributing to LEO benevolent org's which i do, and make no secret of. but those are terrific! congrats!

has to do w the neighborhood leo's and they have given me "warnings" and yes it similar to the 1199 frame ( yes, i have one legitimately got it long ago lol )..and no, not a "kma367" either lol.
just lets em "know" i'm "local" which makes a lot of difference as i'm in sport car/bike heaven here so locals get a pass if one is ever deserved, and weekends especially is like smokey standing in the center of a river waiting for salmon swimming upstream. its proven effective. not being coy, just dont wanna post it. my ip addy is enough LOL

I agree with you. And besides, all stock 996 Turbos have two turbochargers, so I don't get the "twin turbo" (or "TT") angle. There are no stock 996 Turbos that are "single turbo". Porsche named the car the "Turbo", not the "Twin Turbo".

So if it is a 996 Turbo, I'd offer that adding "twin" or "TT" is redundant. They all have twin turbos, so there is no differentiation offered by saying "twin" or "TT". If it's a 996 Turbo, of course it's a twin turbo configuration (if the car has not been modified by removing one turbo or adding a third turbo).
Porsche certainly didn't name the car the "996 Twin Turbo".
I think maybe some people want to include the word "twin" to try to impress people. "I have a 996 twin turbo". Well compared to what...a 996 single turbo? The 911 Turbo has had two turbochargers since the 993. Maybe people are attempting to differentiate their 996 Turbo from a 930 Turbo...
Ever wonder why Lear and Gulfstream pilots don't say that they fly the "Lear twin jet" or "Gulfstream twin jet"? It's probably because ALL Lear jets and ALL Gulfstreams are twin jets. None of them are single engine configured.
Why don't 996 Turbo owners who have OEM configured cars call/identify their stock car as "AWD 996 Turbo"? Could it be because all stock 996 Turbos are AWD. Adding "AWD" in this case would be stating an intellectually obvious fact (for those in the know).

it doesn't take a genius to understand how the term "twin turbo" entered the nomenclature when discussing porsche TWIN TURBO powered cars, when publications such as the revered "Car and Driver" do and have CONTINUED to refer to "them" this way since their introduction. The most recent cited example above is from September 0f 2015.
sheesh, as if people, magazines, end users and owners just suddenly began to one day to refer to 996 turbo's as "twin turbo's" as if to make themselves somehow "feel" better about their purchase?! how shallow a notion is that?

Yeah and I really don't understand why we keep referring to these cars as 996's when Porsche marketed them as 911's......... gawd we're so self absorbed.

Did you notice that the article refers to the 991 Turbo as...well...the "turbo"? Here's their quote:
"With the introduction of the 2017 911 Carrera and Carrera S, the word “turbo” as it relates to Porsche’s iconic sports car has been relegated to a mere badge rather than being singularly emblematic of one of the hottest versions."
They did not call the 991 Turbo the "991 Twin Turbo". And they are not even calling the 2017 Carrera/Carrera S the "twin-turbo".
I was really hesitant to reply to your post because your replies to me normally turn rapidly into personal attacks. So this may be my only reply to you.

I have certainly referred to my 996 Turbo many times as "my 911". If someone asks what model 911 I have I say "It's a Turbo".

Dock, this was all meant as light hearted ribbing and not a serious discussion on my part. Sorry if you didn't get my humor. I should have known better.
