Chirp noise on cold start up - solved
About two months ago I starting hear a distinct single chirp when I cold started my TT. It sounded just like this:
https://vimeo.com/51775214
After a while it became a series of chirps that went away within ten seconds. I did my usual WD40 test on the belt to see if could isolate it but a shot of WD40 did not silence it.
Then just last week I noticed I started hearing it under acceleration on the highway. I thought it was the infamous power steering pump valve going bad and my local Porsche specialist agreed.
On a whim I did a google search just investigate and came across this.

A guy there thought it might be a loose spark plug and I thought that made a lot of sense. Lucky for me my TT just crossed the 59k mark and need plugs anyway so I did the 60k major maintenance and wouldn't you know it it was a loose spark plug. You can see the slight extra carbon build up on the threads of what was the loose plug in the middle.

Yes, 29k miles on them, about 20% of those miles done on track.
You should see the coils, they had 60k miles on them and were 14 years old and looked almost new. No cracks at all and zero corrosion. The rubber extension boots were starting to show a little age but not much really. I replaced all the coils and boots anyway with a new set of Bosch. I will probably push this new set for 90k.

OTOH a chirp from my 2003 Turbo proved to be a bad idler/tensioner roller bearing. This was the second time one of these has gone bad. The first time I heard a "dry bearing sound". The chirp was kind of unexpected but the tech traced the source to an idler/tensioner roller bearing.
