Three Wheelin'
I'd like to know this as well. I'm betting fiberglass and VW power based on rarity and if someone had a 550 in the garage there would be a 918 and lots of other goodies with it. My aunt's brother had a 550 spyder. Wish to hell that was what I was digging out of the family barn in 2013. Instead I pulled out a pile of rust 356 Continental... haha

I have a soft spot for replica cars and kit cars. With the right mindset, they can be a lot of fun. I've had a Countach replica that we used for the auto museum when we were trying to drum up public support to get the museum opened. We would take it to car shows and have it at our info booth. We'd let people sit in it and get their pictures taken. We would sometimes have 30 people lined up waiting to get their photos taken.
I currently own a 1974 Sterling kit car, built on a 1964 VW chassis. It has a hydraulically operated roof that lifts off the car. We keep it in the auto museum and use it as an interactive exhibit. Museum visitors can sit in it to get their photo taken. It also works well to teach the Automotive Maintenance merit badge for Boy Scout overnights. I was proud to own both of these cars.
