Default Hypothetical question

Given similar condition, would you pay more for an 05 x50 ( not an S ) or an 04 non x50. Similar options but the 05 has double the mileage of the 04. 65k miles versus 32k miles. Cars are the same colour and both coupes.

What do you think?

get the 04 and some better turbos and you'll have the better car. on paper.

First and most important is condition/maintenance...mileage doesn't matter at all if one was taken care of and the other abused/neglected.
Personally I'd strongly consider taking the '05 X50 given identical conditions...X50 is more then just turbos(IC's and oil pump being most important) and makes a better track car

But he said..."Given similar condition".

And I gave him my opinion based on those conditions and explained why....

They read as separate considerations (1- condition/maintenance, 2- tracking).

I'm not so sure about a blanket statement that X50 is a better track car.

the reason I elaborated on condition/maintenance is that I have rarely seen/worked-on two cars that have had truly similar lives...ensure that people look beyond cosmetics and the obvious, and look deeper into the cars. I work-on two very 'similar' (mileage included) black 2002 aerokit'ed K16 6TT's, the difference in past ownership/care/maintenance is very apparent...

Fair enough. I just think he couched it in terms that eliminated the condition and maintenance differences, boiling the issue down to year/mileage and X50/non-X50.

How much of a price differential, if only a few bucks I'd go for the x50, a lot of extras.
