Default Question about 997 gt2 intercoolers

I received a set of what is said to be 997 gt2 intercoolers. Pictured below

What you have are 997.1 intercoolers.

The ".70" intercoolers are the 997.2 "GT2RS" intercoolers.

So the 997.1 gt2 used the same intercoolers as the 997.1tt?

Do the 2RS intercoolers fit without any trimming?

Correct. Same goes for .2 TT and .2 GT2. The difference was just from .1 -> .2

The real point being that what everyone refers to as the "GT2RS" intercoolers, and all the write-ups praising the lowered IAT temps, are the intercoolers ending in .70 and are the 997.2 version.

There is some info on the .1 intercoolers on 6speed but not a lot. I believe Champion did some flow testing and the .1 intercoolers flowed "better" but the end caps and density of the .2 intercoolers is the "benefit" with them.

What do you mean by density?

No, you have to modify the plastic ducts surrounding the intercoolers.

I used http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...ml#post3012158 as a guide.

The density or number of fins inside the intercooler, which translates to more surface area for cooling.

The upgraded OEM intercoolers still don't address a big issue IMO, which is the plastic end caps. Generally speaking, I always try to upgrade to the EVOMS intercooler, when applicable.

FEATURES:

Fits all Porsche 996 Turbo vehicles 1998-2005
ClubSport Intercoolers include silicone boost hoses
33% larger core than the OEM GT2 intercooler core
Flows 36-49% more air than OEM 996TT/GT2 intercoolers
Direct replacement for the OEM intercoolers
Extremely efficient closely stacked bar and plate type core design
Reduced pressure drop while maximizing heat dissipation
3-D CAD designed cast aluminum/CNC machined end tanks offer a perfect OEM fit while maximizing flow and efficiency
Inlet end tank has approximately 200% more volume. Outlet end tank has approximately 60% more volume

I've got 997.1 GT2 intercoolers installed. Not sure if it made any difference, but I was given them for free so what the hell...

It's a upgrade over 996 ones. I'm trying to find someone that will weld end tanks on to the oem cores since they are said to flow better than any aftermarket ones on the market.

It depends on your application. The plastic end tanks are derided by some and heralded by others. The plastic won't hold heat like the aluminum can, but they can also leak in high boost scenarios.

If you're running really high boost pressures, you want aluminum. If you're not, it's a waste of money.

Were they drop in on a 996? I have a pair from my 997.1 in the garage from when i upgraded to 997.2. If/when I get a 996tt, I could swap them in.
