Default Got one

First the facts: 2002, 46k miles, Arctic Silver,Tip

The story: a friend of nearly 35 years has been enjoying his 03 TT and convinced me to look. I've been and still am a BMW guy. But decided it was time to part with my roadster. I've been looking since Dec. from Ohio to Las Vegas. My friend even test drove one for me while he was on vacation in Colorado! I spotted this one on consignment at a high end indy shop about 100 miles away. So I took a "long lunch" and drove it. It was exactly what I wanted from the color to the interior and condition seemed great. 3 owner car serviced at this shop since 18k miles. All records, transmission, 30k service at 43k, oil service two weeks prior. I waited a week or so figuring the tip wouldn't go too quick and made the offer. Inspection came back clean, "needs new hood shocks, they don't lift it up from about 80% open" hmmm I can deal with that

Saturday my buddy drove us out there to pick it up. I had him test drive it. After 15 min he's back and says "I've got bad news"..."it drives tighter, smoother, quiter, and pulls stronger than mine and it's cleaner". Ok I can live with that too

Our mini TT caravan heads into town for some lunch and of course gets some nods and double takes. Driving home I tell him we are not flying home as a ticket my first few hours of ownership is not my plan.

Along the way we are "greeted" by a ATS V sedan that wants to play, we decline. Then a 300 SRT8, wrapped in flat black, 20s, has to pull alongside and pace us for a mile or two. I guess I'll get used to it

Made it home and pull into the driveway. Big scraping sound, pull out and angle in, same thing. Wife is now outside and says just leave it on the street. Uh yeah no. I cringe and just pull in. Maybe in time I'll scrape enough off and it'll clear, lol.

Ok, now newbie questions: are there amber lenses in the headlight or just amber bulbs. If bulbs I'll swap to silvered. Anyone use Bosch Icon wipers? They look a lot cleaner and work better

Thanks to all for making this a great board

Awesome, great shot of the side. Can't see any door dings or scratches, must be nice!

Nice - congrats! Consider swapping the spoiler for the C4S version and it will give you some more clearance.

Get used to it.

My suggestion is to keep your big boy hat on and refrain from engaging them.

Use an even more angled approach.

Congrats on the 996 Turbo.

Yes, there are amber bulbs in the headlights. They look infinitely better with the silver coated version. I'm surprised more people don't make the switch.
Bosch Icon works well, too.
I've done both of these "mods".

I use the icon blades on all 7 of my cars. They work great. Enjoy the new ride!

I'm at stock ride height and can get into my driveway at a bit of an angle with zero scraping (of the black plastic lip spoiler), but I do get a light scrape when backing out...I can't seem to figure out the 'reverse angle'. I've checked underneath and have had a friend watch closely -- and it's only contacting lightly on the bottom of the black spoiler, so it's something I can learn to live with...

Can you ID where it's scraping?

Congrats on your new ride btw, enjoy it in good health!

Leftlane yes looking at the C4S spoiler. Cheaper too

Seanl scrapes dead center on the lip that sticks out the furthest. I'll keep trying angles too

Congrats on the pickup!

If it's the front bumper that's scraping, try reversing in at a 45 degree angle or more so one wheel goes up at a time. I need to do this on my moms driveway when I visit, no scraping so far but the front lip gets damn close!
