Is it ness to have max grip on the road? No but..
Tyres are the most profound change you can make to a car or bike. If you want to go quick, it's the best bang for your buck!
If you like the feel and can put up with the warming up biz and fast wear, why not.
The feeling of the car is transformed (sometimes for the worse if you have too aggressive geometry)
I run sticky tyres on all my cars and bikes, I love having loads of extra grip and being able to change direction and stop faster. That's got to be a good thing safety wise too, surely?

i really noticed the change in ordinary street perf tires go at about 540 rwhp and at 570 rwhp they were next to useless as I spun at anything near WOT
I should also add that corners I could safely take at 52 mph I am now taking at over 60 mph with the R888s... my car is aligned very well and corners like it is on proverbial rails but the WHINE from the R888s is annoying.

Just to throw out a data point, from actual data, we see about 2-3 MPH difference from the best of street tires and street driveable R compound in our go-to analysis corners--T1 and T2 at Thunderhill. T1 is a typical 90-92 min apex speed, and T2 is right at 75.
The only head-to-head I personally have with the 996 Turbo was about a year ago at Chuckwalla--basically stock 997 GT3 on NT01 v. mine with the Ruf PSS9, etc. on RE11. All medium speed corners there, and pretty much 2-4 MPH off on min apex speeds with similar drivers.

I know it's bit of a derail here, but your opinion on the RE11's? I got a set for my 930 that will go on this week, thinking about putting a set on the 996. Any feedback is appreciated. Thx!

The first day I was shaking the new race build down, I couldn't get my 18" slicks over my new Front brakes ended up using my 19" street RE11's and couldn't believe how good they were for street tires, ended up running in the 1:38.xx on Millers west track, great tire! Perfect street manners as well. Wish they made a wider 18" size

regardless, most of us still prefer the "comfort" of rcomp... .

Honest opinion:
I ran the R888s on my 996TT once, I'd rather not drive the GT2 than put those pieces of **** on it.
Street driving the NT01s is fine if you aren't a.) cold b.) wet c.) driving like ******* + a.) or b.)
