Best Battery and Size for weight loss but minimal performance loss?
Just wondering what battery and size will help lose a little weight and will fit in the stock tray?
I am not trying to lose performance and worry about having to constantly trickle charge it.
Deka is down the road from my house too.

Run a quality battery and don't fret the weight.
If you must. Look into Optimum.

TT>GT2>GT3 in terms or capacity which should equal weight, I'm sure there's a weight compare somewhere...but I'd try a GT3 battery if weight is concern but so is reliable charging...note that if you are running a big fuel system you might want to keep the biggest battery possible...

I ran a 12 lb unit in my 993 for yrs. The only down side is you must connect a trickle charger if the car is not driven for a few days & its cold out.

12lb battery only good in 45+ weather in most cases and if you leave your door open its donzo. Also if you have a built motor with big fuel pump and etc you might want to leave a good battery in there. Deka makes some in the 25lb range as does Brailie which is still half the original weight. Don't over think it bro, built motor, big turbos, who cares about 20lbs of weight.

The Braille battery at $225 is a Deka battery at $99 delivered, from Amazon, both are made by East Penn.
Some modification to the existing 996 Turbo battery tray is needed for the smaller battery costing about $12.00. Search will show it.
I have been using the small battery for quite some time and find no down side.

pretty sure pwdrhound posted a comprehensive review/install procedure that included the deka/braille connection. if you can locate that thread, you're in business.
personally i can't justify the loss of cca's for the savings of the few lbs. for the street anyway..i've seen too much electrical demand outa these. trickle charger and all.

Excellent write up and pix - thanks. It inspired me to look into doing the same - particularly as my Bosch battery let me down last Tuesday.
However, looking for deals I did some shopping around and found that the Braille battery [now $229.99 from Amazon] is the same as the Deka EXT30L, Big Crank and Magna Power batteries selling for $99.95 - all, including the Braille, made by East Penn.
Also, a similar mount kit to the Braille at $23.66 can be had from Pep Boys for about 1/3rd the price.
You mentioned that the existing -ve battery cable was just long enough and i see that you moved the Braille battery towards the cable end for this reason. I wasn't happy using the short OE cable and installed one about 4 inches longer, this allows the small battery to be in the center of the battery tray with no stress on either +ve or -ve battery cables. I see you secured the tee nuts with JB Weld, i used epoxy as i didn't have JB Weld, seems to be holding up well.
Thanks again.
