Default Why are there so many more 2001 996TTs for sale?

I'm new here and I am looking to buy a 996TT. I have been looking online for one and I have noticed that there are much more 01s for sale than 02-05 996s. Is there a reason for that?

I have been reading a ton all around the forum and haven't really come across a clear answer. Was there a large issue with the 01 vs other years that I'm not coming across?

Thanks all!

On autotrader there were 47 2001s out of 144 and you have to consider they made as far as I know fewer 2004-5s. I'm sure some one will break down the numbers exactly lol. If you do a search you will find many discussions on your question. The 2001 has no glove box and some say there is added reinforcement to the chassis in later years= some say not. Also different radio formats/interior **** finishes etc.. I love the 996tt because it still has some of the old 911 feel and the no glove box is one of the reasons I chose the 2001. You cant go wrong with any year in my opinion.

the only "large" issue with them is the potentiality for second gear popout which has seemed to plague 01-02's only, and though the 02 was the last year with the analogue stereo that sounds better too ( pre MOST ). having said that, you're better off with an 02 thru 04, since you'll pay a hefty premium for an 05 "s".

and personally i like knowing where stuff i put in the glove box is lol

Original poster do a search on second gear pop out and you will hear varied responses. There is storage in arm rests that hold most needed paper work etc I do not need storage as my car is only for pleasure but agreed would be nice if you had to use every day.

I believe there were a lot more 2001's produced, therefore more cars available to be sold and traded. It is most likely not due to a problem with the cars at all.

OP: You really need an 02 that has already had every upgrade known to man invested in it. Like mine for sale: http://www.carsauto.com/2002-porsche...upe-c-926.htm?

Oh ok, I was looking on cars.com and there are many more 01s on there for sale. I knew about the lack of a glove box, but that doesn't worry me. I don't really use them anyway. Thanks!

I've read about the second gear pop-out. I read up about the fix for it as well. I'm not really biased towards manual vs auto though, so whichever I can get a better deal on is what I'll be going with.

Ok, I did look that up and there seemed to be more of the other years produced, but I'm not too certain about the percentage of those numbers that were 996TTs vs the others.

Thanks for the ad, but if I bought one I'd get one that was stock. I like to do work myself and I like to track my progression. If I got a car that had everything already, it wouldn't be that much fun now would it? More expensive, yes...

There are a lot of cars for sale because there are a lot of sellers who don't fully appreciate how awesome their cars are.

The 996TT is the supercar bargain of the century. Buy the newest, best example you can afford and then enjoy the hell out out of it. You'll never be able to tell the difference between any of the years anyway so don't stress about it - focus on maintenance and condition instead.

2001s suck except for the nice bumperettes.

I was recently dicing with a 7GT3 with my bucket and felt good after that track session.
