Default Just broke down in Turbo :(

I seem to have no luck. I was driving along a highway, going 70 and gave a little gas and it seemed to "hiccup". It felt similar to when my MAF unit needed to be replaced. I asked my wife if she felt it and she didn't. I then downshifted to 4th, slowly gave it some gas and it happened again. I got into the right lane and then, when I tried to give it some gas it broke up badly, BACKFIRED, stumbled and would not accelerate at all. All the lights went on in the dash and it wouldn't move. I coasted into the breakdown area, tried to start it again and it would start and just shut off instantly.

I called Hagerty, free roadside and 2 hours later she is off to Schnieder Nelson Porsche in Long Branch, NJ. Sadly they are closed till Monday AM.

Oddly enough, just the other day I was saying the gas gauge needle was OVER the full area and hadn't seemed to be moving. The range claimed 256 miles to empty but the needle hasn't been moving. Maybe related?

The car has 11,900 miles, 100% stock and has new DV's, MAF unit, coil packs and was serviced at 9,900 miles about 9 months at a Porsche dealership.

Any thoughts?

I would definitely check the fuel system...esp. fuel line in the tank (mine ruptured multiple times before I put a custom line on it.)

What's this going to cost? Bend over and just hand them the wallet?

believe all years of 996 were affected, updated pumps have eliminated the rubber hose and have gone to a nylon hose. The submersible hose I posted above should last a few years.

A word of caution using the gates submersible hose- I went this route, over time the hose softened a bit, which allowed the hose to pop off the fitting on the pump- leaving me stranded.

I now have the updated pump without rubber lines on it.

With the fuel level goofy I agree a fuel line split. The other failure is a siphon jet hose fails and the engine dies with a half a tank of gas.

What do you care what it costs? You pay mucho dinero to replace DVs, MAF, coils, etc. at around 10K miles (when the ones in my 03 Turbo have gone from 10K miles when I bought the car to 111K miles with nary a problem) and all and more are useless if the gas don't flow.

Get the updated fuel pump and lines installed and move on.

Default UPDATE...

First of all hats off to Scnieder Nelson Porsche, by 9:00 the car was already looked at. It ran out of gas, bad fuel sending unit. $700 and some change. I had them do a yearly oil change, brake flush and get me a spare key.

I figured when you said that the fuel gauge hadn't seemed to be move that you ran out of gas. lol
It not like a Turbo to ever show full mark for very long.

Funniest part of the whole scenario, the gas can was on the flat bed and tipped over when the driver angled the bed. I said to him, I wish I just needed that and I'd be on my way.

Glad it wasn't to expensive. My Audi tt did the same thing to me but luckily I walked and got some gas and it convinced me to fix gauge lol.
