Default Over revs on a tiptronic

Hi all,

I'm having a PPI on a 03 Turbo today. Pessimistically, I am expecting the report to show some over-revs.
What does anyone know about this on a tiptronic?

Accelerating probably is less of a problem but I am thinking that decelerating into a corner could be an issue..

Thoughts?

Over revs type 1 just mean it's hit the rev limiter, not a problem, type 2 are the ones that should raise a flag. Tiptronics for the most part will not show type 2s since the trans will not allow type 2s

I was told that a Tip equipped car could be overreved if for instance it was being driven dowhiil.

See what the DME overrev counters contain.

Hi Kevin
Is type 2 when you select a lower gear by mistake at high revs only?
Or can type 2 also occur when you hit the rev limiter a large number of times.
What other circumstances can you get type 2.
Reason why l am asking is that My car has type 2
and wondering if l should be concerned, do you think
l need to do some preventive measures.
My car is a 2003 manual not a tip.
Apologies of I have hijacked this thread.
Thanks in advance for your advice
Jim

How many type 2's and how long ago? There should be a time stamp next to the read out and current running hours time stamp to tell you how long ago they were.

Type 2 is mechanical over revs can only be done if downshifting when the rpm is too high for the lower gear and force the engine to rev over the redline, rev limiter can not prevent this to happen since it mechancal.

According to my 996 TT (Tip) manual you cannot cause a downshift that would get you to the over rev situation with TIP.

At PPI 4 months ago when l purchased the car l was told by a Porsche dealership service centre
it was done in the last 2 hours but is quite common and l should not
be concerned, what are your thoughts on this

A tip trans can sometimes be fooled into allowing a type 2 over rev via heavy braking and down shifting where the wheels are locking and unlock in quick succession. Even the ABS can't prevent it.

This is very rare though but the main thing to be concerned with is how many times it has happened.
