He has the x50 tips which are quad shaped (nicer imho) and cost as an option around 765.00

That's great, as long as he doesn't think the option provided for stainless steel that the OEM configuration didn't. So different shaped that OEM for ~$700, yes. Stainless steel vs OEM non-stainless steel, no. That's the point.

Hey Dock,
As a new guy on this forum I'm prepared to take a little abuse-- just a little, please. You can expect me to ask some dumb questions from time to time but I expect some smart answers on your end.

I pick up the dream machine tomorrow and a couple of photos will be forthcoming.

Cheers.

If someone thinks I abused them, then they need to be able to tell me specifically how they came up with that opinion.

I have been attempting to help the guy out so that he doesn't show up at some 996 Turbo get together and while standing around with other Turbos owners tells them that "my car has stainless steel exhaust tips" (vs "pipes"), only to have one or more of them chuckle and say..."They all came with stainless steel exhaust tips".

Dock,
Forget about the car stuff for a minute (if you can.) Let me reveal something only my close friends know:
I can't handle the truth. I try but it doesn't come easy. I'm working on it but, man, it's tough.

There's a great deal of vanity along with driving pleasure in owning one of these fancy go-carts and I'm trying to strike a fair balance.

Meanwhile, if I happen to misstate tips for pipes in Porsche talk with strangers I promise not to mention
your name.

And maybe now you won't mistake the stainless steel part with strangers.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Just me, but I think maybe a "thanks, I didn't realize that" reply regarding the stainless steel might have been a pretty good way to go.

dock did it ever occur to you that maybe the dealer added a sales sticker to the car and it may have an aftermarket exhaust with the oem tips on? if it did then he may well have stainless steel pipes AND tips.
just a thought

That's why I asked him the question ..."Are you talking about the exhaust tips?" in an attempt to clarify which he was talking about; pipes or tips.

I'm not sure there are stainless steel exhaust pipes available for ~$700. Maybe a one-off modification to the OEM exhaust? I doubt it. Additionally, I really don't know what sticker he is talking about. It could be the OEM window sticker for all I know. Or it could be a piece of paper the dealer wrote up. If it was a Porsche dealer one would expect them to know the difference between pipes, tips, and exhaust (as in aftermarket exhaust). It could be a sticker the owner wrote.

To Gillie- I think you did really well with this car.
Enjoy it! I love my Arctic Silver as it changes color depending on how the light hits it. 03- don't have the Ceramic brakes.

Dock, how in the heck do you keep your tips so clean? Mine are all dark and have bits of the last cow patty I ran over stuck on 'em.

And yes, I realize that is a big picture....... ;-)
