Default Replacing wood interior?

I am looking at rejoining the 996TT community soon, and one of the cars I am in negotiation for has the light wood interior package (steering wheel, ebrake, dash trim). I hate it. Anyone replace this stuff? I wouldn't want to spend a fortune, so open to anything. The interior is grey as well.

Maybe someone would be interested in trading as well? I'm not a fan of the wood trim either looks fake and cheap.

Replacing the wood pieces is pretty straight forward and easy with the exception of the dash trim piece. Unfortunately the parts would get pretty expensive rather quickly. You might get lucky and find someone that has all the parts stripped out of a car set up for racing. I think you're easily looking at $2,000 + .

^ That is disappointing. I was thinking a cheap alternative to replacing the wheel would just be to leather wrap it, and hide the ugly wood under that. The shifter and dash trim should be pretty straight fwd. Not much I can do about the grey....
Here is a pic. Awful. What would you do on a budget?

I recall posts about people painting the dash trim, you might try a search. Steering wheel and ebrake would probably have to be replaced.

I passed on a car due to the wood. It just doesn't look right IMHO.

Does the car have the FULL MONTY of wood such as speaker surrounds, air vents, horseshoe, door arm rest, dash trim, shifter, e-brake, lower console batwing, etc.? If it's all that then it's a lot of parts to replace.... read $$$$. If you like the car, price the replacements into your offer. If the seller balks then walk. Don't compromise on the car you want, you'll only regret it later if you do.

Oh, just reread your OP. If it's just those three items then offer $1,600 less for parts plus labor if you're not up for that. Good Luck!

I like the light root wood but than it may depend on what color interior. I have Savanna leather but have been trying to accent it with light root wood. I have the center GPS horseshoe section but am trying to come up with the two two side pieces that have the switches in them. I am going for the small wood package look not the complete all out look with door panels and speakers and such.

Didn't you guys ever watch "Pimp my Ride"? All it takes is a screwdriver and a $6 can of spray paint.

Yeah, Sanyata, you got me thinking.... after pricing replacement parts, it isn't cheap at all.. Forgot to add, the shifter is wood as well.

You can probably find all the replacement parts used...... if that's what you want to do with your life. If you enjoy tinkering around on your cars then it might be fun. If you don't, then not so much fun at all!

What about the rest of the car? Is it really special and optioned out so dealing with the wood is worth it? Or is it just a run of the mill car?

I personally really like the wood

The car is set up really well. Modifications, suspension, brakes, wheels... Exterior color is the same as my 03 996TT I sold a year ago (Midnight blue), one of my favorites.

Go here if you want to change to carbon fiber. That srtrip on the drivers side dash below the airbag is not an easy job!
