Nice looking car, Matt, and welcome to the club! My TT's an 04, and I love it. Great cars. I'm up in Marin, and do a fair bit of driving and instructing with Porsche Club Golden Gate Region (PCA GGR) - socially and on the track. Fun group of fellow Porsche enthusiasts. Come join us if you like. It's a great club for beginners and experienced alike.

Tim, Thanks for the invite. Check your PM about the filter. I would love to join you guys. I have some "fast driving" experience, and not as a spaz, but as an instructor, but I probably need to splain in person. Thanks for the nice words. Matt

Matt congrats on the new ride you are in for many days of fun.
I know you said you son is only 15 but when he gets his license don' t even think of putting him behind the wheel of this 415hp monster with out having any proper track prep time. My son is 42 and can drive and he tells me "dad I'll drive the 84 Carrera you drive that tt"
Matt I make my comments as one father to another father.
I hope I'm not over the line here.
Enjoy

I have a 16 year old, as yet unlicensed driver. A question for others fathers who have been through this, what age do you let them out in your turbo?

BTW: my own driving experience is decades of driving before I had anything as fast as this.

Age of ownership and Internet recorded 0 to 60 time
17 yrs 24.7 seconds
23 yrs 14.5 seconds
25 yrs 9.4 seconds
27 yrs 9.2 seconds
39 yrs 4.3 seconds
49 yrs 3.8 seconds

I don't want to lose a son to an accident, but equally I want to share the passion of driving these incredible cars.

My son first drove my +500 hp 996 Turbo when he was 16 years old; it was his first experience in a manual transmission. He's never driven on a track.

My sons are 27 and 23 respectively. Both are excellent drivers and neither have driven my TT without me in the passenger seat.

If one of them asked, I would let them take it out alone, but neither has done so. I think they are afraid of damaging it.

I certainly wold not have turned them loose with it at 16 or even 20. They are good responsible kids, but at that age there isn't a good correlation between their confidence and their ability.

When I was in high school there were 16-18 year old guys with cars that had big horsepower but that didn't handle well or have very good brakes. They all lived.

I knew a few who didn't. My sons both knew a few who didn't either.

I realize they can get themselves killed in a Volvo sedan as well, but there's no sense helping them along.

Every son or daughter can be different. In my case, it's all a matter of their maturity and my trust. My son is almost 18 and he has solid maturity and a high degree of trust from my end.

Results may vary...

Thumbs up

Ok, finally got a pic of the car off the trailer and somewhat decent. Karen, I love your love of blue cars. I personally wanted a Lapis blue one, but like you, couldn't find one, so I went for the midnight blue one. I have to believe the base coat is Lapis, just with black added in.

Color was relatively low on my priority level. Mileage and year with good PPI and documentation was higher. I looked for over a year. So many websites to check, but be patient and hope your Karma is in good order. It came with an MTM Stainless cat back exhaust and supposedly dyno'd at 475hp/500 ft lbs. The exhaust muffler has two seams which have split and I need to TIG em back together. I picked up a stock exhaust with X54 tips. Can't see much of a power difference, but no 2500 rpm drone. I can pull 1.1-1.2 Bar WOT. It has been a blast to drive. I look forward to getting into it daily.

I don't have any worries about my son driving it. He is a very cautious driver and understands the risks as a new driver. I have a Cummins Turbo Diesel which will probably be the starter manual vehicle. With over 500 lbs of torque at idle, you don't have to deal with clutch, brake and throttle at the same time. Just brake and clutch. The Cummins has minor mods or in Diesel terms "BOMB" = Better Off Modified Baby! Prior to the Porsche, it was the hardest top gear accelerating vehicle I have ever driven. We just need to get some time to get some stick time.

I just joined PCA and will try and make some events. I want to meet other Porsche owners to help with my knowledge of the marque. Thanks you for all the support. All the best. Matt
