Default 2004 996 Turbo S S/N 100

Maybe one of the 996 TT gurus can help me figure out this mystery.

I recently purchased a 2004 Turbo S. It has the X50 option, and says Turbo S on the tachometer and engine cover. According to Streather, there were only 2 Turbo S cars built in 2004. The VIN confirms the year of manufacture as 2004. Could this be one of those? What do you think?

Just a guess, but, genuine "S" would not need "X50" as an "option" because the standard model included the enhanced tune, etc.

If it is one of two '04s, that would be sweet.

Sadly, often an S is added to an otherwise non S.

Default history and doc

OK, the car has been maintained by a personal friend and extremely knowledgable Porsche mechanic for all but the first two years of it's life. The car was purchased by the previous owner from Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach in 2006 with about 4k miles on the dial. I seriously doubt they messed with the badging. There is no indication of tampering with the badging. Every detail is authentic. Here is the build sheet from Porsche's data base.

Thanks for helping me figure this out guys.

Any more clues here?

It was built early in the 2004 model year. The S didn't appear until 05. I'm not sure that's meaningful, but I would think any S builds in 2004 would be at the end and not the beginning of the model year.

A call to Porsche NA would probably clear up the mystery quickly

Hmm, that's a good point. Porsche North America is checking their records. Should know in a couple of days. Thanks for the tip.

I don't see PCCBs. Didn't all of the Turbo Ss have them?

I've read in a couple of different places that the PCCB brakes were first used in the 2005 model. The brakes on my car (2004) have been changed by the previous owner to yellow 6 pot in front and yellow 4 pot in the rear. Rotors are drilled metal. This was done to provide more braking force as the car was occasionally tracked.

OK, here's what I can find from VIN #;
Coupe, TTurbo, US spec seat belts and airbags,996,US spec car, 2005 Model year, mfg. Stuttgart, actual VIC number is 85100

From Option Codes:
US car, Rear console colour same as outside, 450hp,heated sseats with left and right lumbar support, painted Porsche crest wheel caps,US Brake fluid warning system.

I can't find code conversions for the XRA, X97 and X98 option codes nor the 996420.

The car is definitely a 2005 Model built in 2004 (My 2004 was actually built in June 2003!)

Porsche NA says they cannot verify colors of the two TT S Porsches built in 2004 MY for 'confidentiality reasons'. That's straight from Customer Service...? However, I did learn from Champion Porsche that this car was constructed in July 2003 and delivered in October 2003 as a 2004 MY. I will be bringing her home from Chicago on Tuesday the 27th, and have a closer look at everything....fun, fun, fun.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll post if anything changes.

then in all likelihood you have an x50 that has been badged as an "s" since it's an '03 build for '04 MY. as jg and others have said upthread, the x50 wouldn't be on the option code and it would have the pccb's '05 MY only for the 996t. i also once had a falsely badged x50 car and i was loathe to remove the "s" from the deck but i couldn't handle any more shop talk ribbing from those "in the know"

you've got a great car, nonetheless. probably about a $140k+ sticker when ordered. congrats on the purchase!

edit: it appears you have the real deal s car if the guy ran the vin..... nice...
