Front End Click??
Hey Guys,
I have an 2002 996T T which I recently purchased. It has 40k miles.
The front calipers are the 6 piston GT2/GT3 version but othervise car is stock.
I have an issue where coming up to a complete stop, maybe a second before completly stopping I'll hear a "click" or metallic noise as if the brake pad is shifted.. If I dont use the brakes I cannot hear the noise.
I took the wheel off and everything seems tight, the brake pads have very little movement... I noticed the strut spring can be moved by hand a bit near the top where the bearing is, I'm not sure if this is normal (this is while the car is lifted)..
I was thinking to remove the pads and see if I can see anything.. What do you think?
Also when I go to replace the pads, are pads in GT3/GT2 & turbo calipers all the same?
Thanks,

not sure what your clicking is, but suspect you have aftermarket shocks and spings, and that the springs are moving against their seats - this is a wag
pads are definately different
pads are definately different

The suspension is completly stock as well the rest of the car other than the brakes.
Driving the car there arent any noises at all, its very firm no squeeks... Its just when your about to stop maybe 2 seconds before there is a noise like something shifts (metallic)...
I did some research and found that people use 997TT 350mm rotor with the GT2/3 calipers so I need to confirm thats what I have..

I am 99% sure its the brake pads. I haven't fixed it because it stopped bothering me.
One day I had the wheel off and noticed the pad can shift back and fourth about 2-3mm. I think bending the spring a little to make the pads tigher in there would fix this noise.
On another car I had the same noise but way worse and it was the pad shifting in caliper clanking around.. That took a while to figure out..

My car does the same thing sometimes. I think it is a combination of running race pads without the vibration dampers and also running floating 2 piece rotors.
