IMO, I think the turbo will hold it's value short term, provided you maintain it properly and keep records.

IS the RS clone valued in the price range you're looking to trade into? Remember, a special buyer would be needed in order for you to sell the RS clone, if and when you tire of it.


If you are feeling impatient and want to move on quickly to another car, have you tried Carmax? From what I've read here, most members that have sold their car to CM, it's a 30min experience and you walk out with some quick cash.

You should get a fair value and Carmax usually pays wholesale which is better than trade-in value. IF, they have a vehicle you're interested in, there's the bonus of a little tax savings.

I would venture to say, you have alot of options in front of you, whatever your price range may be, so you decide whether to just be spontaneous or use your head a little and think if something more practical (i.e., modern) is better for you.
Are you looking for a car to fit your family, or is that even an issue/

Thanks for the kind words , i may just. Keep the car its a shame because i hardly drive it . My two yr old is always learking toward the garage and he is a magnet to the porsche so i feel like i am pushed in a corner every time i get home i think ok what did he break . You know whats like with these cars even a lost cigerette lighter is like $80 lol

My take is I never look at a car as holding value better. With that said, the word "clone" would be a variable that is virtually impossible to measure so you'd need to find that single buyer that values it the same as you. The sample buying a car like that is extremely small while the market buying a Turbo is much larger and you'll always have a straight forward idea of pricing.

Cigarette lighter cost me $20 and I don't allow any of my kids (or wife) near my car. They must wipe or at least kick off all the dirt and dust off their feet before entering.

I traded in my Miata for a 996 so I can share my joy with my 2 and 5 year olds.

... I came to the thread late... I would absolutely trade for a 1973 RS Clone if it was done correctly. First of all, even if you take away clone aspect, you have a 1973 long hood Porsche. The long hood RS reps have been going for huge money as have straight long hoods, so unless something really unexpected happens they will always be worth more than a water cooled turbo.

I also don't think buying or collecting cars with appreciation in mind is a bad thing at all... wish I would have kept a few muscle cars just for that reason alone.

Worst case... you can always wait a few more years and buy another 996TT for 10k less than they are selling for today and I'll bet the '73 at that time will be worth more than it is today -- by a lot.

Yes, provided the RS came with enough cash to get me to part with my Turbo.

Which car holds value better? Who cares. Either one will probably be worth more in X number of years than my stock portfolio.
