It's the only hose connected to the sending unit. I imagine it's difficult to see from topside without removing some stuff, as the sending unit is behind the oil filter and hard to see as is.

I have my car back and am going to be doing some testing. I will keep the fuel tank more than half full all the time and see if gravity helps prevent issues.
They assure me the engine is good. If this works for a couple weeks, we may replace the fuel pump or regulators or whatever. How much could all that stuff plus injectors run, anyway? GRIN

Drove 80 miles tonight while data logging the misfires on 1-6. I'd be going along fine for 20 minutes and then suddenly get 10-30 misfires on 4-6, the cycle counter would zero out and then I'd get more... Sometimes the CEL would flash, sometimes not. Once in a while the oxygen sensor would trip and the CEL would stay on. It seemed to me that just going a nice cruise speed with light gas would be the most likely time to have an issue.

I wondered if this made any sense. Over the weekend I got a new error code: P0198 Oil Temp Sensor (it was reading -45C hehe). I found some sources that say this is a ground to B+. Macster in another thread noted that grounds to B+ can cause misfires because the air/fuel mixture becomes to lean or rich.

I also believe (but have not yet done enough logging to know) that the car has many fewer misfires during the daytime when it's warm outside and many more at night. This might explain why the shop had a hard time reproducing errors, and when I would take it out for a drive at 10pm (and 55F) it would misfire within 5 minutes). Could that tie into the problem somehow?
Any thoughts?

Hoho! They snapped the grounding post due to corrosion, and had to make another ground to the suspension. They want to take another look at that. I'll keep logging to try to narrow it down.

Wow man... this is epic. I feel for you but am amazed because you seem to have a positive attitude about it. I keep coming back to check because it really is a mystery to me.
I'm really pulling for you and really hope you get to the bottom of this. What's going on here is way over my head, though.

May as well be positive about it all. They are trying to be thorough and do a good job for a reasonable price. I am planning on keeping the car for many years, so even though this year is painful, I'm looking forward to the long drives ahead (without a CEL!). I'm enjoying learning about the car, too.

They got a new code to pop up, something about a ground or wire reversal in one of the O2 sensors. If it is electrical, maybe causing the fuel mixture to go lean or rich suddenly on one bank, that could explain it. Will check in after thanksgiving.
