Default Clear Bra Questions

I'm getting ready to do my first DE and am a little nervous about debris flying up and hitting the car during the runs.

My car does not currently have a clear bra and am thinking about getting one installed. Anyone have experience out there with this? Do they work? I have a couple of small rock chips, will the install make them look worse? How long do these things last?

Any and all help/comments is much appreciated!

Blue painters tape, or "track wrap" is an alternative to a clear bra install. Obviously you can remove it after the DE.

I use the blue tape. Some tracks sell the wrap.

If my car was brand new with no marks, I would probably go clear bra. Not sure how it looks applied to a car with some marks. (But even with the clear bra I might still use blue tape at the track.)

Have the clear bra it works well. Have not had any problems. Only the lower half of my hood is done you might consider doing the entire hood.
Good Luck

I have experience with them. I really like the clear bra - makes you feel much more protected, lets face it, painters tape may be good for the track, but you don't want to take it out on a date that way....

I had a clear bra installed on my Cayman - S when I bought it (19K miles) - while the paint was great - there were some chips. Afterwards, you really noticed the rock chips as they were under the clear bra and looked like little air pockets. Still....I am generally against re-spray, AND I am always agains buying new cars....therefore, I took the next best alternative.

Thanks everyone! I guess that settles it - clear bras are worth it!

Clear bras can dull your finish look. I chose NOT to clear bra my new 997.2 PDK. I clear bra'd
my 996 GT3 and my 997 GT3.
Just for a track event you should blue tape it. If you clear bra it and get a good ding
then you have a dulled finish you paid $700 and up for AND your ding in the bra is permanent
till you take it off. If you get a ding in the painters tape its not permanent and you just pull it off.
ALSO Rubber marbles can get on your clear bra and some of them are almost impossible to take off.
that happened on my 997 GT3 at Fontana.

I had a clear bra on and when removed for a detail it left an edge line where it was in the clear coat. The line was hard to see but was there non the less. I don't think I will install another one. I am going to use the temporary removable stuff. Keep in mind if you install a clear bra you will always have to have one.

My car came with the front bumper cover done in a thicker, matt finish "bra." No clear bra on the hood; I've seen permanent lines in the paint after removal. It works well, and I've only one small hood chip after 25,000 miles, including about 1,000 miles on the track. My headlights are done in a totally clear "bra."

The matt finish bumper draws attention to the nose and accentuates the "shark" appearance. It makes the car look a big nastier.

Just be sure to have an experienced installer perform the work.
