So the 3.6 GT1 motor is gone, how do you feel?

But Marketing did determine that the vast majority of the new demographic have never even heard of LeMans, have little to know history of 911's or Porsche Motorsport and wouldn't know a dry sump if it fell on them, so cheaper is always better....just sell them the badge.

...And besides, now that Nissan owns the ring title, Porsche can focus on selling cars, right?
Trust me, one of the biggest factors in buying a track driven sports car should be the racing heritage, like that of the Porsche GT1 motor. I'm "hoping" that they got it right with the new platform.

The 3.6 was the result of years of development and RACING! The newer modular motors starting with the 996's have been problemmatic and were unable to achieve a turbo application for durability reasons.
The newest 3.8 appears to be a huge improvment over the old modular but the faithful will resereve judgment, as the former CEO Wedeking prided himself in profitability. The new motor is a lot cheaper to build. It's unproven and will never be raced. So how will it hold up to mods... probably about as well as a Z06 with headers and a tune and then..BAM!

"good" is good enough.
I'm sure the new engine will not have the racing success or heritage of the GT1.
I'm sure it will be good enough. enough for what? ... only time will tell.

Hello to all!

Job security? Not really. If the new Turbo block is the same as the 2nd gen DFI 997, then I think it will be just as bulletproof as the M64/GT1. It still has 8 main bearings, very nice/simple timing chain setup. I was very impressed with the new DFI block. It is a huge improvement over the M96 block without question.
Thanks!...
Good Luck!...

Any thoughts out there about the longterm impact of direct injection on intake valves? Have the engineers changed the valve materials, construction, or design to handle higher expected intake valve temps?

Uusually DFI lowers combustion temps because atomization takes place in the combustion chamber. Since combustion temps are lowered this allows to raise compression, or increase boost on turbos. Intake valves don't usually suffer heat degradation like exhaust valves. since they are closed during the exhaust cycle.
