Default "Jerky" TT Performance?

Good evening all,
Week #1 of 996TT '02 ownership. Fantastic.....what can I say? A supreme driving experience how ever I am noticing some "jerky" performance issues and curious to know if they are native to the TT's or an abnormal issue.

The engine is 'missing / hesitating' very briefly when I lift gently off the gas. More so when the turbo's cut out or drop from a gentle 0.1 to 0.0. Also when up-shifting when the clutch is disengaged and throttle let up I experience what feels like a miss/hesitation which makes smooth shifting impossible.
Even running even & steady on the throttle (75 in 5th) there is a fast 'miss/ slight hesitation which "jerks" the car briefly every 10-15 seconds.
Similar symptoms accelerating but not quite as pronounced.
Not sure if I was simply not aware enough on the test drives and PPI to pick up on this or wether this is a new symptom brought about by an over zealous but well intentioned engine detail?

Stock except for mild Fabspeed exaust, Plenom intake and ECU re-program by DPS International.

All thoughts most appreciated.

Best,

J

Good morning Fred,
This vehicle just competed the 30,000 mile service. Might plugs have been replaced as part of it?
If not I don't see any indication in the history/paperwork from the previous owner to suggest they have been changed.

Thank you for your post.

Best,

J

The service recommendation is to replace the plugs at 30,000 miles. However, without seeing the invoice for the 30,000 mile service, it would be impossible to know if the dealer actually changed the plugs. This might be an expense the delaer would "forget" when preparing a used car for resale.

Sounds like plugs, I'd check to see what was done in that service.

And there was some confusion in the maintenance manuals as they originally said 60,000 miles for plugs and was later revised to say 30,000 and essentially left it up to the dealer to determine whether to change them or not at 30,000. That was for US cars. I believe ROW cars still show 60,000 miles for plug change (not 100% sure on that though as I don't follow that as closely).

Thank you guys,
If it were a plug issue and causing such noticeable symptoms would it not invoke ECU error codes or a Check Engine Light?
What would one expect to pay for a plug replacement?

Best,

Sounds like plugs, Some times bad plugs will throw a CEL sometime not. Plug replacement on these cars are not cheap. If you can get them done for under $500.00 do it. You could try it your self but you should know that its a least a four hour job for your first time.....If your good that is.

Important to add though that I am experiencing this miss/jerkiness through out the RPM range & also @ idle a minor miss/unevenness it detected.

Speaking of plugs, you might also have a bad coil pack(s).

Coils may make sense since plugs were replaced by the former own 6 months ago with Bosch FR6.
Wouldn't a bad coil throw a CEL or other code?

A cracked coil pack will not always through a CEL. I have had to replace several on the stinkin Cayenne, and it has never once thrown a CEL. It sounds like a good place to start from what you have described.

Just read the spark-plug DYI. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=20761
Didn't realize that the plugs and coils on the TT are located toward the bottom of the block. I pressure washed the underside last week. Could this be as simple as 'wet' coil(s)? It might explain why this symptom was not present at the PPI last week.
How might I rule this out?
