Default How much extra for Porsche certified?

How much extra should a dealer charge for Porsche certified on a 01 996tt?

I think it could be as much as a couple of thousand. Remember that it's only good for 6 years or 100000 miles from the original in service date. A 2001 is near or beyond that point so keep that in mind and don't pay for it at this point unless you have at least a year to go before the warranty would be up.

Also keep in mind that a CPO warranty does not have the same coverage as the original warranty.

Roslyn Porsche told me a CPO is about $2,000 and I could have that waived if I am looking for a discount. In my opinion a Porsche without a warranty, being CPO or third party, is worthless. Too bad that 70% of the 996TTs for sale are without a warranty.

I bought my CPO car after the original warranty ran out, and the CPO covers additional 2 yr, 50k miles from the date of purchase -- not the original in-service date (as for some other manufacturers). It is much more limited, but has covered a new gauge cluster to fix a rear spoiler issue and airbag warning light. I paid $1,500 more for the CPO.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it possible to purchase a CPO on a car you buy from a private 3rd party, or only when you purchase the car from a dealer?

Nope

Here's the PCNA exact verbage:
Every Porsche Approved vehicle comes with a comprehensive Warranty
- If sold while under the new car warranty, Coverage is up to 6 years or 100,000m/160,000km total , whichever comes first
- If sold once the new vehicle warranty has expired, Coverage is 2 years from the date of sale or up to 100,000m/160,000km, whichever comes first

If the cars don't have the dreaded 2nd gear pop out issue and the Type I and II overrevs are non existanat or minimal, you can't go wrong with the TT engine. I don't agree at all with some other comments about not buying a car under some sort of warranty. Hello people, the cars are 6 and 7 years old. What 7 year old car can you go buy that still carries a manuf warranty save for Hyundai and VW??

If you are worrying about the clutch going or some other wear and tear item, good luck getting that covered under any warranty anyhow.

If you do a PPI and then, for even more due dilligence, have your own Pcar mechanic go over the car with a fine tooth comb ahead of buying, you should feel pretty damn safe. Some of these cars have less than 30k miles but are out of warranty becasue of the age of the vehcile. Like mine, the car is an '03 has 22K and is out of warranty. THE CAR IS GOING ON 5 YEARS OLD. If you are concerned about something going wrong on a car with 22K miles, perhaps you should be looking at buying a new car.

Well, it's good to know that we get *something* for the extra cash we have to pay for P-cars over here in Australia! Here the Porsche certified/extended warranty deal can be renewed every year up until the car is 10 years old, as long as mileage is below 120,000 (200,000km's). And everything is covered bar sacraficial wear items (eg clutch, brake pads/rotors and so forth).

So my 2001TT, (which was certified and covered for 12 months when I bought it), can stay covered up until the end of 2010! It costs AU$1400 each year to renew the warranty over here. It's a small price to pay for piece-of-mind/insurance I think!

Cheers,

Beej
