I think we need more cooling! This was after 2 days at Sebring in October. The Pagid RS29 outer pads are not holding up even with the largest brake scoops. Kevin, I need to talk to you about the Sportec cooling kit. I don't see it listed on your Web site.
Thanks, Lyn

Wow, the pad backing plate looks warped.. But it also looks like the backing plate is worn against the rotor.. Metal against metal.. If you look at the inboard side of the caliper, you have some pad compound. Outside edge doesn't look like anything left.. With the heat transfer thru the backing plate, the pistons and calipers take the hit.

Yep, It was slightly metal to metal, and that is what wrapped the pad. This is my friends car and he would rather ruin a rotor than miss a session. The pads either de-laminated or just melted off from one session to the next...twice. I thought the Pagid yellow RS-29 / RS-19 were the pinnacle of pads for the track? They have been up for this car up until now. Does Performance Friction have something that will take more heat?
Does the Sportec kit use a block plate to direct air to the center of the rotor?
Thanks, Lyn

Just another note. These Porsche 6 piston calipers are incredible! The yellow insulating ceramic pucks you see in the photo reduce the heat back into the caliper. Even after this abuse, there are no leaks, and the pistons/seals are like new. I have 965 turbo brakes on my 964 and I know I would boil the fluid and destroy the calipers way before this point.

This 03 X50 has PCCB calipers with the steel rotor conversion, which I think is the same result as Kevin's kit. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Does anyone know when they introduced the ceramic pucks?

'02 was the introduction to the ceramic hardware. With the intro of the GT2. There was a "Kit" that Porsche sold for the Turbo. 15K...

The Sportec kit ducts the air from the front bumper cover and terminates it at the front liner. It does not have a diffuser to direct it into the rotor. However, there is alot of air coming thru the 4" hose.

I think you may have prevented this by changing pads before your session. most trackers would not run track pads if they are 50% worn. looks like you may have started with pads way below 50%. just an observation.

Can you please explain how these brakes differ from the standard??

Is the compound on the disks harder??

Condor, this kit upgrades your rotors to 350mm at all four corners. The front calipers are increased in size and compared to the stock calipers which have 4 pistons, these calipers have 6 pistons. The stopping power is vastly improved.

Harold, I will let you know when I receive the funds.

Kevin,

They sound like the Go!!

I'll get back to you next week after my mechanic has assessed the damage on my rotors.

Aaron, there is a company in Cali that makes billet hubs and brackets/adapters to use your calipers.
