Everything was a piece of cake except for the upper nuts holding the heat shield on. These come off easy enough IF you remove the intercoolers first, but you will need a 1/4" drive 13mm socket, swivel and ~12" of 1/4" drive extension.
Another thing that was a bit tricky was getting the plug wires to come off the coils. Some of the coils need to be maneuvered out of the hole and the plug wire needs to be detached. Once you see how it clips on, it is a no-brainer afterwards.
I did this yesterday afternoon btw. Be sure to download the instructions posted either on this forum or over across the street.

Thanks Dennis, maybe the wife will let me put it in the calendar next weekend.
I appreciate the heads-up on the tools, I have a full set in 3/8" with "wobble" extensions but not 1/4"..time to shop!

I would recommend unclipping all the coil packs from there leeds. Please inspect each coil pack for cracking.. If corrosion is present replace the coil pack..

While I'm waiting on my new plugs (ordered the Bosch), I did some research on the wastegate adjustment. I hope that cures the "fluttering" I hear at high revs, either way, at $4 a piece I will try to change these at 15k rather than the prescribed 30k. I'll also carefully inspect all the coil packs.
"4.0 + 0.5 mm @ 0.5 Bar";, I'm not sure if this is the same for TT/X50/GT2. Is this applicable to the '03 X50?

Rickard 993 Turbo...instead of this foolishness, how about you explain to everyone how you changed the spark plugs in a 996tt in 1-hour?
I think it would be a great contribution not only to this website, but to Porsche mechanics worldwide.
Not saying you are full of ****, just saying that you present yourself as one hell of a nimble fingered spark plug replacing savant, and I certainly would like to see some evidence of your genius.

If you can measure it I would do that before making any changes to verify your starting point. Let us know what you find.

Well, going through the parts listed on the Pelican site there appear to be 2 different part numbers for the actuators OEM-99612311571 & 671, the 2nd looks like it applies to the GT2. It could be a different tension spring or geometry rather than a different adjustment.
Further research on the various forums has yielded (I love the internet!) "adjust for wastegate just opening at 11.5-12 psi". Obviously there would be no point to doing this without an ECU flash allowing the higher boost levels, timing & fuel ect (thanks Kevin).
I will make measurements on my standard X50 setup next time I'm under car with a range of regulated pressures.

You cannot adjust the stock actuators to 10 to 12 PSI. You will basically take all the travel out of the stock actuator spring. ala Coil bind.
The factory measurement is used to SYNC left and right side turbochargers.. It's not designed to increase boost.. Yes, you can apply 1 turn and get a 10th of a point of boost but thats it.
As far as the part numbers.. There is a left and right side actuator.. Each is different..
