So I guess I’ll expand on my first comment. I have the “track pack” on my car. That includes: Front bumper, full hood, headlights, mirrors, front quarter panels, A-pillars and half of the roof.

Mine was $2200 installed. For all the times I’m driving behind my buddies in the mountains “having a good time” I’m really happy I have it. Also when washing the car, it’s amazing. It almost makes the paint look like it has even more depth. Also, ZERO swirl marks as it’s a self healing film.

All in all, I would definitely do it again. I can’t imagine repainting all the items it’s currently covering would be less than the price I paid.

It is absolute garbage - it was installed on the 991.2 by the dealer in Edmonton when the car was delivered. By the time it got back to Vancouver (1100kms) the leading edge of the hood coverage was peeling up, so fixed at Porsche's expense, then I fixed once after because it was peeling up again (to the tune of $750) and now, it is peeling up around the lights, leading edge of the frunk and on the lower grills - I will be having it removed and ceramic coated in a couple of months.

Also, it does fvck all for protection - I have an impact on the hood that has not only marked the hood, but damaged the Expel - looks like **** - do not waste your money, you will not be happy - they told me the expel was good for 7 - 10 years, it has been three and it is a serious bone of contention with me because it looks so sh1tty.

Rant over.

I've been torn on doing my car. It used to have it before i bought, and the PO took it off due to yellowing. When taking it off it peeled off some paint on bumper. No big deal on the bumper. I'm worried about putting it on the hood and fenders because if it needs to come off and it takes off paint that would be really bad. I also don't want rock chips though because my car does get driven a bit. I Try to avoid highways, but i cant always.

I go back and forth on this daily.

I don't consider some patina a bad thing.

I personally wouldn't ever put plastic film on my 996 Turbo.

I do, however, like the ceramic coating; makes it super easy to keep nice and clean.

Mine cleans up just fine (and easy) with just the wax I have on the paint.

Which wax do you use? I was pretty attached to AutoGlym until I discovered ceramics...

Like mentioned above there are many that like and some that don't when it comes to PPF. I had my first car covered about 15 years ago with 3M(best product at the time) and it did its job but was known for yellowing (it did after three years). Fast forward to 2019 and I had my new Vette done as soon as I picked it up and used XPel. The improvement in the material is really great due to the self healing, gloss due to smooth texture and the thinness of the film. I only did the half hood because the material today is really almost invisible to see a line (dark gray car). I have done three more of my cars and am really pleased with the performance. The cost to do the partial front, headlights, and side mirrors was $850 which was $50 more than it cost me to have my Turbo rear bumper repainted shortly thereafter. The rear bumper matched pretty good but had orange peel that I had to personally correct so I am not a big fan of painting unless you just have to. I have had some pretty good hits that would have chipped the paint and the self healing makes the mark just disappear. I just read yesterday that Suntect now has a film that has the ceramic built in so it is a personal preference and I like it because I really can't stand chips. As for the mention above of having the material peel off after install is a classic example of a really poor installer so the mention of your choice for the installer is important.

Boy, nice thread with response all over the place which is good. My personal experience of having two sweet Porsches with PPF. My bottom line is to echo others is that it depends on the installer. If they install it with the ability to roll it over the edges it is a no brainer. You do not see it and the protection is priceless. The ceramic on top of that wow! Obviously an expense but personally I would rather that than chips that are going to happen
