KW Suspension opinions?
Hello,
My 2004 Turbo Cab needs a suspension refresh and my mechanic suggested that I go with the KW Coilover Kit V1.
Anyone have any experience with these and how do you like them?
Also, I've read a lot of people have used the 997 strut mounts instead of the 996 turbo ones. Are those the 997 turbo ones or the standard 997 ones?
It's my daily driver and I don't intend to track the car.
thanks!

I'll never, EVER buy KW again. I bought/installed a set of KW V3's on my S4 and they were GARBAGE. Rear springs kept sagging and a front strut blew out in 6 months. Here's where most of my ire comes from. KW will NOT send you another shock/strut and then refund you when you send in your blown part. They REQUIRE you to send in the blown part so they can inspect and rebuild it. That's a huge problem when it's your DD!!
I've had all sorts of suspension, bilsteins, Koni's, Tokico's, etc. NONE of them made me do that! They all happily sold me another shock/strut and then refunded me once they'd received the old part and examined it.
KW forced me to buy another entire suspension, then it took them SIX WEEKS to rebuild the bad strut and send it back to me. Once I got it I sold their CRAPPY product and I'll never run it again.

KW is one of the top suspension brands out there for a daily driver. If your suspension is shot, I'd say its time for a nice upgrade.

Drifting
I've had the KW V1 for several years. I bought it new and installed it myself in the garage with tools that I already had. No other parts or components were needed. Later I went to RWD and wanted to lower it a bit more so I fabbed up some adjustable dog bones so I could get the rear camber and tow where I wanted and did a rudimentry alignment in the driveway. I was within half a degree of the specs I wanted after a pro 4 wheel align. I've played with a few ride heights and am now about 1 1/2" lower than US stock height, and everything works very well. I can change ride heights simply in about 10 minutes or less with all the wheels removed. There is no compression or rebound adjustments like the V3, and I actually prefer that. The ride is good, the handling great, I'm perfectly happy with my choice.

Yes 997 turbo front strut mounts work and they are half the price as 996 turbo ones. Not sure why they even offer the 996 ones anymore except to soak more money from people that don't know.
If you haven't replaced them it is likely the stock ones are unbounded/ or torn to some degree. Also change the strut bearings while your in there since they are relatively inexpensive and you won't have to get back inthere and have to pay for another alignment down the road.

Been using KW v3 on multiple cars since 2010 will continue using them, many miles zero issues.

I had good service from KW when I contacted them about ride height. I didn’t like that the highest setting is much lower than their spec sheet. They were responsive and provided a couple options.
I’ve had the KW V3’s on my car for 60k+ miles including some track time. In my experience the product performs very well and has been very durable.

I have had my KW V3 setup for about a year now and love it. Much sportier handling and still everyday compliant. I went with the recommendation of the Porsche specialty shop I use that has a race team and services race cars. They recommended KW or Bilstein but the Bilsteins were on backorder until who knows when so the choice was easy. They have a good relationship with KW so I am definitely not worried about service or warranty issues. Even if KW gave them any problems, I know the shop would take care of it for me.
