Default Turbo S brake change cost?.......$20000? Ha really?

So just got the 2005 turbo S inspected/ passed with flying colors brakes as well but the guy behind the counter mentioned to me hey do you have any idea how much it cost to change those brakes ?

I’ve only got about 60k on the clock from what I understand these brakes go beyond 100k. And I probably drive at a whopping thousand miles a year so I really don’t think I need to worry about this anytime soon but has anyone else ever change the ceramic brakes on a turbo S and actually paid something approaching $20,000 ?

thanks

joe

I think most people will change to steel rotors when the ceramics need to be replaced. The rotors alone are over $5K each.

Many people with ceramics take the rotors off the car, put them in a box for safe keeping, and then replace them with steel rotors.

Agreed, that is the way to do it.

Methinks the proliferation of application for general automotive use and nascent ceramic refurbishing industry will bring costs down.

Suncoast Porsche has the front rotors at $11,500 for the pair, and $10,600 for the rear pair.

of course you can buy the whole pccb conversion kit, with all four rotors AND the calipers/pads for a mere $17K... lol

They are incredibly light and you can pick them up with your pinky finger. The rotors should last well past 100k miles, but can be damaged by mounting the rims haphazardly--hence the two included wheel mounting studs included, rather than the one included with the steel rotor cars.

Good pad life on PCCB is the most important thing you can do to keep the rotors in good shape

You can get them refurbished at about $1500/rotor. I know several guys that do this on Cups. The company that does this is in GB.
