PCM aux in?
I want to connect my ipod to my 04 turbo cabs PCM i called a few car audio places here in la jolla and they said it isn't possible unless I use an FM modulator because the CD player is connected to the PCM with a fiber optic cable. I don't have the CD changer however so i was wondering if anyone else had any other ideas...

stupid Porsche....I have the same problem...I tried both the itrip and the Belkin unit but both dont give a clean sound quality as you would get by direct connection!!

I do not know anything about an FM modulator but someone said this is the latest and greatest.

This may be a false alarm. I contacted Ian on the UK board to see if he can get a part number.
In the meantime I saw this on the Becker board.
"The CDR-23 doesn't have an AUX input, but we are working on getting cables for hooking up an RF adapter to the radio. Contact us in a week or two."

It would make sense if one could attach a CD changer then someone with time and knowlege could tap into the pin connector and find the audio inputs and "fake" the system into thinking the CD changer is on. I'm sure this wouldn't be easy or cheap but a good installer could figure this out, but this would preclude the use of the CD changer.

bigmboy,
you might try a search in this forum, 996 forum and Cayenne forum for MOST. I have posted info on this topic numerous times in the past.
the bottom line is that there is NO external audio possible on the MOST network currently installed in Porsches.
mitch236 was very close in his solution, which is technically possible, but well beyond the capabilities of an installer.
there are plans/roadmaps to design and market various MOST aftermarket adapters, but they are 2-3 years out still. if you go to the MOST website, you can see a powerpoint presentation of such plans.
There is another way, but it would involve driving around with a laptop computer (or a handheld PocketPC) and a MOST protocol adapter (MOSTalyzer or MOSTWave); these devices are used in development and allow for analog IN/OUT onto the MOST ring, among other things.

(BTW, I unfortunately know a bit about this as I designed the DSP MOST amplifier in all MY03+ Porsches).
At this point, an FM modulator is probably your only viable alternative

I would like to propose that given a CD changer that can be dissected that I could make a connector that would work. The display wouldn't give useful info but I could make music go through it.

Mitch,
It sounds as though you are proposing to take a MOST CD Changer (and there aren't many choices), find internally the analog audio path (which may not exist if the audio is transferred digitally from the CD mechanism to the MOST network transceiver IC), break the connection, inject your line level L+R baseband audio signals and then keep the CDChanger mechanism on the ring to keep the headunit happy.
On paper, simple
Sounds like a fun basement project.
