A question of misfires...
So, took the turbo up the inlet today, (on a set of Michelin's...) and about 60 miles out, engine light came on. I thought this a little odd as I am back to 94 octane, but when I got home, it turns out I got a (360 I think) Cylinder 6 misfire, along with cat inefficiency.
I did not replace the coils last spring as they 'looked' good, but I put plugs in.
I have these in the car:
Part #:
Is this what to expect when coils go?
Cheers,

Which I understand at the 996 replacements. Is this what to expect when coils go?

Coil part numbers from my notes:
Can't speak directly to the misfires, but certainly sounds plausible that it is the coils... Was it damp or wet?
- 996-602-102-00 is the original, discontinued 'thin head' coil.
- 997-602-104-00 is the latest version 'thin head' coil. (beru zs036) [Now 997-602-104-01?]
- 997-602-104-02 is the latest version 'fat head' coil. (beru zs178)

Why is wet a problem?

I think that micro-cracked coils have a tendency to misfire more in damp or wet conditions... I haven't had the problem myself, but recall reading about that being a problem.
If you do put in new coils, rmeuropean has a pretty good price on them. $37 each, free shipping.
https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...404-MFG47.aspx . These are the 997 long bolt, fat-head style.
Unfortunate it isn't a bit easier to just swap in some new coil packs.

I thought swapping them out was just a matter of getting the car in the air?

No affiliation, but I just ordered some pads for my MB from FCP Euro, mainly because they were lifetime warranty and had the brand I wanted. If you plan on keeping your german car for a lengthy time, you may want to look there. Price was very competitive to others and free shipping over $49.

No, swapping the coils isn't just getting the car in the air.
There are those here who say they can do it without taking off the rear bumper and intercoolers but having done the job, I'm not sure how.
So remove the rear bumper, intercoolers, heat shields, then pull the coil packs. At that point you might as well just replace the plugs again....

Are the connectors included with the coils? Or, are these the connectors on the harness?
Perhaps a little di electric grease would help...?

So, the one on the screen, 997.602.104, is what is currently in the car, and the one I am holding is the new replacement part...
They appear different.
The new one has a longer bolt (which did not come in the box) thank the old one.
To make the new ones work, do I just need a longer bolt?
Cheers,

So, I have now just ordered a set of 6x40mm coil bolts as my old coil seems to be 'thicker' and somewhat dimensionally different than the new coils... Pelican says they must be used when updating the coils...
