Default AC Coolant/Freon Leak

Hi all,

There's a slow freon leak in my 2002 996tt's air con. The leak has been identified to be somewhere in the wind box behind the dash. The garage wants to charge like US$1000 for the labor, because they say it's a labor-intensive job which requires taking off the entire dash board and what-not.

Is there some kind of sealant additive or other means/ways of making the repair w/o the stated work? (hope this is not a dumb question...)

Thanks.

DC

Sounds like your evaporator, a common leak in 996 and 997

Stay away from stop leak fluids, additives, sealants or anything of that sort; the can gum things up
