Default Used my wheel hangers for the first time

Every year this time I take the all seasons off and put the full summer set on. Always afraid I'm going to chip a ceramic composite rotor if the rim drops down on it. I've been covering the rotor with a towel to provide some protection. One of the guys on the 996 board told me to check my tool kit. Sure enough, Porsche include three wheel hangers in the kit. This really makes removing the tires easy, and also is great at guiding the new rim on. I've been trying to center it by sight and using the small lip on the rotor hub to support the rim; which inevitably it slips off of.

This is the way to go.

Steel rotor cars only get one, but it does come in handy.

Interesting that Porsche would only put one in the tool kit of steel rotor cars. I would have thought they would just put 3 in each tool kit so the kits are consistent. It couldn't have saved that much money.

I tried using one hanger, and three definitely give more stability, especially when guiding a rim onto the hub.

I use a movers dolly along with the wheel hanger to slide the wheel/ tire on. That way I don't bang up the wheels or refinished calipers. Saves your back too.

I just put my wheels on like a real man

But seriously, the hangers/guides are nice if you don't have studs. Even with them, I have definitely made contact between the wheel and caliper and that hurts me inside. The dolly is a good idea if the hub and wheel are colinear but you have to make sure the heights match up also.

Chipping a rotor was my concern. Good news.... rear set is $1000 less.

I'm pretty sure the turbos have the same M14X1.5 threads. The rest is just a stud.

Is that a stock finish on the OEM wheels? They look fantastic!

Thanks. Yes it’s the stock finish. The Turbo S came with GT Silver color rims. It’s slightly darker and more metallic looking than the normal silver twists.

And here is the single unit on the 991.2 TTS that is in my care... I only have two for my 996tt, so I was wondering, are there meant to be 3?

Yes these definitely make changing wheels a lot easier! I got a set of three off ebay and they work great!
