Best source for new or rebuilt alternator
My battery/generator light is on all the time now & volt gauge is fluctuating wildy between 10 & 14 volts.
Battery is good.
I do not want to just replace the voltage regualtor since the car is almost 20 yrs old.
Once in there i want to replace the entire unit.
Who has the best prices on this part?
Thxs in advance

don't worry if it's Bosch branded rebuild or not, any quality name is good...Wilson, Remy, Bosch, etc
all 9x6 are the same, just make sure you get the correct one manual vs tiptronic due to different pulley (freewheel/clutch on manuals..can also be used on Tips)

There is a cross reference part for the same unit, but tagged VW instead of Porsche - my previous owner got this part and it was a fraction of the cost of the Porsche unit.
Did you try replacing the voltage regulator? I just did this because I noted my volt meter was hovering around 12v, the moment I changed to VR out, it is now at a solid 14v.
Cheers,

Just wanted to add the support for "all" of us.. We need to change the regulators in our cars. The graphite brushes are wearing down to nothing. Bearings rarely fail, the diodes are generally solid. It's the stupid high amp/current jump boxes that knock out the diodes. Pull the battery out and load test. OR replace with a new AGM.

if you do decided to go with a voltage reg. make sure the slip rings are not worn... even lightly worn rings can cause 'bounce' at higher rpm

Find a good, old school shop to rebuild it and change the voltage regulator.
