Default Tint: Dark or Medium, got pics?

Being in TX, tint is mandatory to keep the heat out. The TT does not have any though, but will get some. The question is how dark. My other vehicles have a medium tint to them, but not dark like limos. I am considering getting darker on it though. I don't know %, but I mean get one that you can't see in very well. The mediums I have you can see in easily. Also, the 3M tint I get resists the heat regardless of the how dark it is, so it's purely aesthetics.

So for those who have tint:
  1. Do you like the dark tint?
  2. What do you not like about it?
  3. Do you wish you would have gotten a medium/lighter tint?
  4. Do you care to share a pic? Ideally polar silver would be the cat's meow since mine is that but any will do. Or we just make a tint thread

because already most have dark interior, a medium (35%) should be fine. At night, anything darker makes it more difficult to see out of (think rearview and sideview mirrors).

I've had 20% on my cars before with a black interior and it was difficult to see out of at night...

Check maximum legal tint in your area. Make sure the side windows don't exceed that. In the back, I would not go extremely dark. I lived in Houston when I had my SC tinted. I had the large rear targa window tinted very dark. It's difficult to see out the back at night. On my other cars, I didn't go as dark and it's better. Today's tints can keep out the heat and UV without being extremely dark anyway.

My only photo of a tinted silver car is my M5. It's got the maximum legal in my state. And it has been lowered significantly since this photo.

I had to strip my 20% off my black/black TT and go to the legal 35% to pass MA inspection. It has only made my hate of this state government grow that much more.

If you can go 20% legally without hassle, it's WAY better than 35% IMO. Never had a problem at night with it, but YMMV.

Medium to dark tint looks great on silver cars... Pretty much the only downside is backing up at night in an unlit area can be tricky, but adding a camera to my carplay head unit will solve that. I've never regretted going darker, though I have regretted going to light on other cars.

Texas law will be very specific regarding tint, but I would personally lean towards lighter than their darkest allowed (actually, I wouldn't tint at all if it were me).

Ive got 15% all but my windshield is 70%.

Only problem I have is the rear gets distorted as it gets dark.

Off topic but glad to see another E39 M5 owner. I sold my 02 M5 to make garage room for the 996 turbo and miss it dearly.

On topic, my vote is for a Light to medium ceramic tint. I had 20% on my Blk/Blk M5 and it looked sinister but on my 996 turbo I have 50% and like the "classic" look....just my $.02

35% tint, I guess that is medium. Works great. If anything, I could have gone slightly lighter. Don’t really care for too dark of window tint as I am getting older. When I was in HS, it was limo tint for everything.

ok, y'all got me, here is my first car (240SX with SR swap and upgraded turbo, all done by me)) and second (E39 540), both with 20% and now (as I mentioned above) I would probably do a ceramic 35% as I'm older and prefer better visibility..

Dark enough to help with sun, not so dark as to make driving in the evening questionable.

This car was lighter, but had a tinted windshield. That made night driving kind of sketchy.

No idea what the % is? I prefer darker in the Colorado sun.
