2001 or 2003
I am looking to purchase 911 turbo and i am confused between 2 options i have . Should i go for 2001 turbo between 50K - 60K miles or 2003 turbo with miles between 70k to 80K. Any suggestions or old link to articles or threads would be of great help.

Which ever car has been maintained the best.

the 01 and 02 MY cars have shown a propensity for 2nd gear popout. by MY 03 this issue had been remedied at the factory. if either is a "tip" this info is rendered moot.
i was never a fan of first year model iteration cars. plus, i like cup holders.

'03 and newer cars have the MOST fiber optic sound system wiring. That means it is harder/more expensive to do an aftermarket sound aystem up grade. Not a big deal, but just one of a few differences between the model years.

As stated, get whatever has the best records/maintenance.
The MOST/fiber optic system in my MB makes it nearly impossible to upgrade to a modern day head unit, there are no good options out there except to rewire it all. Perhaps Porsche's have a better solution, but do your research if something like CarPlay is important to you.

Lots of people poo poo the glove box and cup holder, but having had 99 c4 without and now the 02 with I would not buy one without. Then there is always the mythical chassis stiffness of the 02 and up cars.

The chassis stiffening was phased in on February 1st of 2001. So any 996 built after that date has it.

The differences between model year 2001 and 2003 are pretty trivial, especially compared to the differences in condition and how perfectly sorted any two individual cars might be...
But if, hypothetically, the build, options, condition, service history and everything else about two cars was perfectly equal, I'd take a 2001 with 55K miles over a 2003 with 75K miles in a heartbeat.

Whenever I'm with people who own the 01, the first thing they always seem to gravitate towards and play with are my cup holders and glove box. They're always jealous. Just saying.

Glovebox, sure...
But having had an '04 996, the cupholders are an engineering marvel that succeed at being amazingly complex and cool to open and close, but absolutely worthless as actual cup holders for anything with, you know, LIQUID in it.
As for X50, great option if you are buying a low-mileage, investment grade car and plan on keeping it for investment value. But IMHO not something worth seeking out if you want a performance driver. Much better options for increasing power with without adding X50 lag.
