On a 996 Turbo, anyone with or without a raised limiter can rack up over revs both type one and two without mechanical over-rev.

Over-rev reports are fundamentally useless on 996 Turbos.

I wish we could make this thread a sticky as this question gets asked. A lot.

+1

Also, every time I've researched the issue, I've found large swaths of the Internet who still don't believe what we've established here. Both on RL and elsewhere.

I feel that the search function is not the best here on Rennlist. I have searched several times for questions and had a very difficult time locating info. Sometimes I find it easier to just ask the question than spend an hour or more trying to search for the info.

What I typically do is simply use Google (or these days, DuckDuckGo), and type in:
site:rennlist.com pinning coolant pipes
for example. And it works for any site.

traditionally porsche would cpo/certify manual shifter cars that have range 1-2-3 over revs on the dme... but they will not cpo any car with range 4-5-6 -- that speaks in volumes about what is important, and could damage an engine...

And the 996tt DME only logs Range 1 and 2 overrevs, so as has been mentioned, the overrev report doesn't really tell you much.
