Are you the original owner?

Dock, my 01' came with drink holders. My 99' did not. It's an easy retrofit that although it is a pretty crummy design, it's still better than trying to shift, steer and hold a coffee cup with only two hands, or have a water bottle rolling around on the passenger seat while in motion. Don't go to the dealer for this part. Other buying options similar to this will get you the same product and still leave $ room for a steak dinner.

Heres an example:

Although my 2002 Turbo has cup holders (they came standard in '02 and subsequent 996 Turbos), neither my passenger or I drink in my Turbo.

Not to worry.

I have actually in the past opened the cup holder just to see it in action, and to make sure it would hold beverages.

Well that looks tasty! Good to see them working while static, but what about at speed...?

I don't now. My neighbor and I drank them standing in my garage right after the photo was taken.

I imagine the bottles would be stable enough in the "cup" holders if the cornering and acceleration were kept reasonable. I would never allow unopened bottles in the car though.

Yes open containers of anything are bad, as is chocolate - never will there be chocolate in anything I drive.

I have the cup holders, but think the location of those is terrible. Seems like the design engineers were drinking when they designed it. I think it is unusable when you drive. I have the cup holder on the floor thingy (ultimate cup holder) like crazy. It works well.

Oops! I misunderstood your post, Dock. And, no, I'm not the original owner of my turbo or any other car, truck, boat or motorcycle ever in my life. I'm too cheap!

Do you think your cup holders came as installed at the factory, or as a retrofit by another owner?
