I got lucky and picked up the B8's and H&Rs for $1,000 for everything, put new mounts, bearings, droplinks, bumpstops on for another $400, and did all the work myself. It's way less than $2,600 - $3,000 for just the coilovers.

The more I drive it the more I like my set up.

Do you have a local Porsche/sports car suspension shop in town? You might want to go talk to them if there is.
I’ve got a couple Porsche mechs I’ve talked to but no one can be me a straight answer.

there is NOTHING "wrong" with the setup i've been using for a decade. ( my car IS lowered "correctly" ) h&r reds ( 350$ ) on MO 30s ( twice ) and the T-Solutions links ( $450 ) to dial camber and a proper gt 2 ( as starting point ) alignment. even if you buy new dampers ( bilstein/koni whatever ) with the lowering springs you'll still be at less than HALF price for the most reasonably and time tested setup for this platform. which again, IMO is the ohlins at $3500 + not counting labor ( add at least 5-6 hrs ) and accompanying bits that might need replacing ( top mounts ) etc.

if you want to INEXPENSIVELY lower the car for LOOKS and drive on SUNDAYS. springs and dampers are all you'll NEED. like the thousands of others seeking a similar "compromise" that have gone before. it's not some harebrained "solution" its the one you seek. coilovers for tracking? sure.
Thanks for the reply! I’m really just going for the set up you have. That would be more of the way I’d like to go. It sounds like it is right up my alley.

You've definitely received the "correct" answer in some of the above replies, now just have to sort out which replies they were!

basically the original oem version ( back when ) of B8's which are ( were ) used in concert with lowering springs. essentially the "sport" suspension for "older" porsches.

for NON lowered cars, there were (?) the bilstein b6 ( sport ) series.

Fits:
Porsche 996 3.4L Carrera 4 / 3.6L Carrera 4 / 3.6L Carrera 4S
Porsche 996 3.6L Turbo / 3.6L Turbo S

Fits cars:
- with sports suspension M030

I just did the H&R upgrade to my 996TT about 3 months ago, and can confirm it's worth it. I ended up using additional adjustable toe-in and upper control arms from Tarrett, their solid metal LCA thrust bushings, and an adjustable rear swaybar. Each, except for the swaybar, was needed to correct a problem with the geometry adjustments following the coilover upgrade. I also replaced front LCAs and both front and rear strut mounts (which were torn). Did the motor mounts, as well (964RS). I think the overall cost must have been about $5k with everything (with my son and I doing the install).

Previously, I had been having problems with the rear tires wearing badly on the inside. That now appears to be corrected with the upgrades.

Results? It transformed the handling dramatically, feeling a lot more like my son's Cayman S. I gave it a good shake-out in NW Arkansas at last November's Porsche Palooza, and it all performed beautifully. I'm now getting ready to install a Europipe exhaust and a UMW tune to top it off. Hmmm, those Protomotive intercoolers look very interesting. As others have mentioned, it's a slippery slope!

Use google or search here for some pics of the ROW suspension, it's worthy of consideration.I know that it's not nearly enough drop for some, but as a contrary viewpoint, I happen to think it looks perfect (I have never driven one with ROW, so basing this on looks alone, to be clear). To my eye it levels the car out (car doesn't look like it's doing push ups anymore), and eliminates some of that wheel gap front and back. It's plug and play, and was engineered for these cars by Porsche, so you know you're not compromising your car.

Also, it's my understanding that the coilovers need to be serviced (and thus removed) much sooner than an OEM setup would have to replaced, so that may be something else to consider, especially if using a shop for labor.

Ive used b6 and b8's before and they are bone jarring..lol

This time I'm buying either the p96008 RoW Suspension for 2295 euro or the bilstein branded B4/M030 with Row springs they are 1335 euro(cheaper package because of the bilstein branded b4m030 instead of Porsche.

I've had great experience with techart springs with oem shocks on my 997tt and 997.2 carrera wanted to try different one this time... Ive also had pss10 , pss9 and kw3 before dont really need it anymore never adjusted it..lol!!!

Btw how much are OHlins R&T? Havent tried it..

tarret carries the ohlins for about 3k lowest ive seen is about 2700 a set lowest price.

back to dampers..pretty sure the b4 is the OEM replacement. the b8 is synonymous with the MO30 which im not even sure that OEM destination is even available any longer. i cant find 'em. the MO30 was porsche's internal part designation even though bilstein manufactures them *all*.

Where are you even finding RoW springs? I haven't been able to find any.

$2700 for the ohlins is cheap! Who was selling them for that?
