When I first bought my Turbo I too thought the e-dipstick was stupid. But now with years of ownership I like being able to check the oil with just a flip of the wand on the steering column. I do wish Porsche had also installed a conventional stick as a backup

You think an electronic oil measurement system is stupid?

I'm throwing up a link to Powdrnhound's original thread on the dip stick conversion and info on part numbers...

something so reassuring about being able to manually check the oil. but schematics for me are like newer cave paintings. so i'll forever tug the stalk.

that doesn't read right.

Is this an engine-out mod? When ordering parts should I order the two parts listed above or this list from PH?

You can do this mod by partially lowering the engine a few inches. I listed all the required parts a few years ago in post #8 of the following link:

Thanks PH!

According to the Sonnen diagram, I should order #s 15, 16, 17,18 and 19. #s Number 15 and 18 are different part #s from yours, and Sonnen indicates that filler tube 996-207-016-70 and seal 999-707-285-40 are incorrect for a GT3 and that I should order filler tube 996-107-150-59 and cap seal 996-107-336-00.
What do you think?

referenced post...

You need #11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16. You may not need 0-ring (#12) which I think is part of the cap #11.

Disregard what is in the Sonnen diagram and order the parts I listed from the 996Cup PET that Paul references above.

Hi Powderhound,

I ordered the parts from your list...thanks! Do you remember if the metal guide tube inserts into the Intermediate piece casting or does it free-float in the filler tube?

Thanks!
